[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 2, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the second expedition, Team 1 (Mizuki-Yukimura-Oshitari K) and Team 2 (Marui-Tooyama-Kikumaru-Ibu). 

 

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Opens Aug 6, lasts till Aug 8 or until everyone gets tired of it): Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. 

Expedition: (Opens Aug 9 and lasts till Aug 23, or until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

Again, Ibu was glad he had the foresight to just keep the camera running. That landing would definitely make the promo video cut.

"Kikumaru sir and Tooyama sir are near the corpse. I'm unsure where Marui sir is."

Another day, another freak cave in.

After the fall, Marui was out for the count. All well and good, until the part where he woke up covered in heat-seeking Elizabethan Crawlers. He jumped up screaming bloody murder, a scream that was drowned out by-- what the hell was Kin-chan fighting.

Nuh-uh, no fucking way. Marui had seen Starship Troopers, he wasn't sticking around for this. He noped the fuck out, running away from death by bug and toward death by slow starvation lost in dark cavern.

When he couldn't hear the sounds of the fight anymore, he found a corner and crouched to catch his breath. It was a lovely, peaceful break, until the heat-seeking bugs slowly honed in on him again.

Long story short, Marui is currently crouched in a corner, splattered in bug blood, surrounded in the corpses of the bugs he's been smashing with a rock like a demented caveman.

Eiji was, of course, unaware that Marui had become a feral bug smasher, but he had heard Lt Commander Byodoin's voice. "Tooyama!" he half yelled at the boy. "It's Byodoin! I think they're here to rescue us!"

"We're over here, sir!" he called. "But I think Marui's gone." He wondered if the Elizabethan Crawlers maybe carried him off somewhere.

Byodoin sighed... looked like they'd be organizing a search party for Fatty. Great.

Luckily they'd brought plenty of string with them, so he started handing a roll to everyone.

"Alright, priority is finding fatty. Use the string to mark our path as we travel through the caverns."

Tooyama looked up at the sound of his nickname and OH MY GOSH it was BYODOIN. He jumped off the dead bug carcass and went screaming towards Byodoin, jumping on him immediately (and getting bug goo and guts on him). "BYODOIN!!!!! I told you DON'T COME."

Ibu took the proffered string and attached one end to the ladder then setting the spool on one of his spare mics so it would unfurl easily as he searched. "I'd like to follow you, Byodoin sir," he requested. Not because he was concerned, no, but because the footage would likely be amazing. Byodoin had great presence and the audience would just LOVE him.

Byodoin wrestled Kintarou into a head lock, smirking. "You don't get to decide when I come, brat. Anyway, we've got to find Fatty. Ready to help?"

Byodoin looked at Ibu. "Sure, you can tag along."

Tooyama clung to Byodoin around the waist with his legs, just happy. "YES YES!! I can find him!! 'Cause I can SENSE him, right??"

"Sure, if you have an idea where he is you can lead the way." Byodoin replied, currently in the middle of examining the crawler corpses. "Good job defending everyone, by the way. Santa would be proud."

There were a few dead crawlers that seemed to be leading away from the main site of battle. Hmm.

As apparently the only person who recalled that the medical bay had no way to treat... well, anything... Atobe took the ladder.

His gaze swept over the three members of the party who had apparently survived. They looked in need of nothing more than the most boring medical care, although Tooyama might yet have his head popped off by Byoudin.

"While speed is of the essence," he said as the party prepared to head off into utter darkness and destruction. "Are either of you hurt? I would rather treat concealed wounds while we have light from the entrance."

"I am VERY HEALTHY thank you Atobe!!" Tooyama said cheerfully, still clinging to Byodoin. Healthy and feeling good about SANTA and his good job at defending the group. "I just got PUNCTURED and smashed into the WALL, but I am fine thank you." OH! "And I broke my GLOVES 'cause I had to punch the BUG really hard." He waved his hands at Atobe.

Byodoin looked like he had a headache. "Go let the nice doctor treat you, brat."

Atobe eyed Tooyama's wide grin, and then turned to look at Byodoin for an indication about how seriously his adopted child's choice of language should be taken. Byodin looked as if he was going to need Atobe's meagre pain killer supply.

Deciding that Tooyama would likely declare complete health until slightly beyond the point he was legally dead, Atobe beckoned with one figure to guide his patient into the limited light falling down the shaft from the surface.

"Show me," he said.

Tooyama wriggled out from the headlock to scuttle up to Atobe as intructed. "OKAY OKAY!" And he was already stripping out of the nanosuit, peeling it away from the snapped off insect claw tip happily stuck inside his side and showing Atobe his scraped back that was most likely going to bruise something awful.

"It had LOTS OF LEGS I couldn't keep track of all of them 'cause the helmet got in the way..." Tooyama said guiltily, "NEXT TIME I will definitely beat it without being touched though."

Of course "show me" meant stripping practically naked and removing even the protective suit that was designed to stop fatalities in the barely habitable environment of Izanagi. Atobe narrowly resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose and instead examined the labyrinth of minor wounds that stretched over Tooyama's skin like the world's worst subway map.

With one finger tip, he gently prodded but did not remove the embedded claw.

"This will have to be removed," he said. "However, to do so now would cause bleeding and risk further infection from an open wound. Unless it is particularly painful..." his eyes swept over the skin. "I'll sterilize the skin and you can snap your nanosuit back around the area."

Stepping back, he slid the medical supply bag from his back and removed a disinfecting spray.

It hurt, only when Atobe poked the claw. "NO NO IT DOES NOT HURT AT ALL," Tooyama said, deafening Atobe who maybe might not be able to hear him through the HELMET it was very hard. He stood very still (because he was a very good cooperative person okay) when he was sprayed, pulling on part of the nanosuit again once it was done.

"Do I need to show you MORE THINGS?" he asked, pulling off the gloves to shove his hands in Atobe's face, complete with scraped knuckles and some cuts from the broken bits of metal that had stabbed through the layers of foam. The bugs were very hardy things okay. Very hard to punch.

It would clearly be easier to write Tooyama off and leave him in this godforsaken shaft to continue his intimate bonding with bugs. Taking the hand being waved in his face, Atobe sprayed all the exposed skin with the antiseptic spray.

"Broken or not, keep the gloves on," he instructed. "And when we return... report..." Oh this was an unfortunate suggestion, but there was little choice. "... to medical bay." Atobe could only hope that Sanada had reinforced all breakable sections and jammed open the doors.

Atobe looked around at the other present members of the team. "Has anyone else been... punctured? Or similar?"

Byodoin meanwhile was already veering off in fhe direction of the squished crawlers in hopes of finding Marui.

Atobe was capable enough to handle Kintarou. Probably.

"Oi, fatty. You alive?"

As interesting as Tooyama's puncture wound was (and truly, it was very interesting), Ibu continued to follow Byodoin as they searched for Marui.

"Kikumaru sir did toss a rock at him, so maybe it pinned him down when the sink hole happened," he suggested to the head of security.

"How big a rock are we talking?" Byodoin had been sure to carefully look over the caved in rocks near the entrance, and that's where he'd have been if he was pinned.

No, he had probably fled further in.

...interestingly enough, Byodoin didn't seem to have any trouble seeing ahead of him as he headed into the darkness in search of Marui, only a string being left in his wake.

Somewhere deep in the caves, there's the occasional crack of rock on rock.

Donk. (Dead crawler.) Donk. (Another dead crawler.) Donk. ....Donkdonkdonkdonkdonkdonksmash. (That one was persistent.)

"Big enough to cause him to fall backwards and land on the ground," Ibu stated, then pulled out one of his backups. He found the right footage and held up the screen for Byodoin to view. "I don't think he's dead though."

"I don't think he's dead either." Byodoin replied, moving towards the spund of bugs being crunched.

He was fighting back. That was a good sign.

"Hey, Fatty!" He called out as he got closer, grabbing passing crawler and squeezing it to bits in his bare hand. "We're here to get you. Can you fucking walk?"

Marui stopped mid-donk, his head snapping in the direction of Byodoin's voice.

Oh no. The bugs had got Byodoin. All hope was lost, they were all going to be eaten and turned into alien bug-puppets, in that order.

But it was dark, so there was hope. Marui held perfectly still, praying that he would be passed by.
