[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 2, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the second expedition, Team 1 (Mizuki-Yukimura-Oshitari K) and Team 2 (Marui-Tooyama-Kikumaru-Ibu). 

 

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Opens Aug 6, lasts till Aug 8 or until everyone gets tired of it): Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. 

Expedition: (Opens Aug 9 and lasts till Aug 23, or until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

"I am VERY HEALTHY thank you Atobe!!" Tooyama said cheerfully, still clinging to Byodoin. Healthy and feeling good about SANTA and his good job at defending the group. "I just got PUNCTURED and smashed into the WALL, but I am fine thank you." OH! "And I broke my GLOVES 'cause I had to punch the BUG really hard." He waved his hands at Atobe.

Byodoin looked like he had a headache. "Go let the nice doctor treat you, brat."

Atobe eyed Tooyama's wide grin, and then turned to look at Byodoin for an indication about how seriously his adopted child's choice of language should be taken. Byodin looked as if he was going to need Atobe's meagre pain killer supply.

Deciding that Tooyama would likely declare complete health until slightly beyond the point he was legally dead, Atobe beckoned with one figure to guide his patient into the limited light falling down the shaft from the surface.

"Show me," he said.

Tooyama wriggled out from the headlock to scuttle up to Atobe as intructed. "OKAY OKAY!" And he was already stripping out of the nanosuit, peeling it away from the snapped off insect claw tip happily stuck inside his side and showing Atobe his scraped back that was most likely going to bruise something awful.

"It had LOTS OF LEGS I couldn't keep track of all of them 'cause the helmet got in the way..." Tooyama said guiltily, "NEXT TIME I will definitely beat it without being touched though."

Of course "show me" meant stripping practically naked and removing even the protective suit that was designed to stop fatalities in the barely habitable environment of Izanagi. Atobe narrowly resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose and instead examined the labyrinth of minor wounds that stretched over Tooyama's skin like the world's worst subway map.

With one finger tip, he gently prodded but did not remove the embedded claw.

"This will have to be removed," he said. "However, to do so now would cause bleeding and risk further infection from an open wound. Unless it is particularly painful..." his eyes swept over the skin. "I'll sterilize the skin and you can snap your nanosuit back around the area."

Stepping back, he slid the medical supply bag from his back and removed a disinfecting spray.

It hurt, only when Atobe poked the claw. "NO NO IT DOES NOT HURT AT ALL," Tooyama said, deafening Atobe who maybe might not be able to hear him through the HELMET it was very hard. He stood very still (because he was a very good cooperative person okay) when he was sprayed, pulling on part of the nanosuit again once it was done.

"Do I need to show you MORE THINGS?" he asked, pulling off the gloves to shove his hands in Atobe's face, complete with scraped knuckles and some cuts from the broken bits of metal that had stabbed through the layers of foam. The bugs were very hardy things okay. Very hard to punch.

It would clearly be easier to write Tooyama off and leave him in this godforsaken shaft to continue his intimate bonding with bugs. Taking the hand being waved in his face, Atobe sprayed all the exposed skin with the antiseptic spray.

"Broken or not, keep the gloves on," he instructed. "And when we return... report..." Oh this was an unfortunate suggestion, but there was little choice. "... to medical bay." Atobe could only hope that Sanada had reinforced all breakable sections and jammed open the doors.

Atobe looked around at the other present members of the team. "Has anyone else been... punctured? Or similar?"

Byodoin meanwhile was already veering off in fhe direction of the squished crawlers in hopes of finding Marui.

Atobe was capable enough to handle Kintarou. Probably.

"Oi, fatty. You alive?"

As interesting as Tooyama's puncture wound was (and truly, it was very interesting), Ibu continued to follow Byodoin as they searched for Marui.

"Kikumaru sir did toss a rock at him, so maybe it pinned him down when the sink hole happened," he suggested to the head of security.

"How big a rock are we talking?" Byodoin had been sure to carefully look over the caved in rocks near the entrance, and that's where he'd have been if he was pinned.

No, he had probably fled further in.

...interestingly enough, Byodoin didn't seem to have any trouble seeing ahead of him as he headed into the darkness in search of Marui, only a string being left in his wake.

Somewhere deep in the caves, there's the occasional crack of rock on rock.

Donk. (Dead crawler.) Donk. (Another dead crawler.) Donk. ....Donkdonkdonkdonkdonkdonksmash. (That one was persistent.)

"Big enough to cause him to fall backwards and land on the ground," Ibu stated, then pulled out one of his backups. He found the right footage and held up the screen for Byodoin to view. "I don't think he's dead though."

"I don't think he's dead either." Byodoin replied, moving towards the spund of bugs being crunched.

He was fighting back. That was a good sign.

"Hey, Fatty!" He called out as he got closer, grabbing passing crawler and squeezing it to bits in his bare hand. "We're here to get you. Can you fucking walk?"

Marui stopped mid-donk, his head snapping in the direction of Byodoin's voice.

Oh no. The bugs had got Byodoin. All hope was lost, they were all going to be eaten and turned into alien bug-puppets, in that order.

But it was dark, so there was hope. Marui held perfectly still, praying that he would be passed by.

Byodoin sighed and stepped towards the silent man. Yup, he was in shock. Probably about to fight, too.

He didn't get the chance though, because at that moment a new giant crawler came bursting through the wall to attack Byodoin.

Byodoin handled it like he was in a fucking action movie, ripping the legs off the crawler and using them to stab it's own abdomen repeatively. "Fuck. Off. Bug!"

That sure was a terrifying alien bug fight going on right in front of him!!! Small mercies mean Marui at least doesn't take off running this time, he remained crouched, smashing rock at the ready, fully ready to die any second. Goodbye, cruel world.

Oh. My. God.

Ibu was so, so happy right now. Editing this was going to be so hard. Between the action and night vision, it was going to be a lot of hard (but fun!) work.

Keeping the camera on Byodoin (just in case of further invasion), Ibu stepped slightly closer to Marui. "Marui sir, it is I, Ibu Shinji. Byodoin sir and I are here to rescue you. Put down the rock or I will be forced to use defensive measures against you."

Byodoin could see in the dark, Shinji had nightvision on his camera, and Marui had... absolutely nothing. He was sitting completely blind in the dark, painting his own mental picture of what was going on in front of him based on the very loud and graphic noises issuing from the fight.

And then suddenly there was another person there speaking, who was WAY too close to him. Startled, Marui screamed at the top of his lungs, and threw his rock in Shinji's general direction.

What had Ibu just said? Dumbass Marui. He managed to catch the rock, despite the bug juice all over it, with no damage to his camera, nanosuit, or general personage.

"I'm really sorry, Marui sir, but--" Ibu brought the rock down onto Marui's head. Hopefully that would keep him out long enough to get him out of the cave and onto the shuttle so Atobe could look him over.

Byodoin finished murdering the guant crawler and went over to scoop the unconscious Marui up over his soldier.

"Let's get the fatty back to the doctor." He barked back at Shinji before starting to follow the string back to the group.

Ibu started to follow Byodoin, careful to keep Marui's floppy body out of frame. The head of security looked pretty badass from this angle. He could see the UEA promotional images now...

Atobe heard a series of thonks, then a scream that seemed to threaten the structure of the caves around them. This time he was unable to prevent the hand that momentarily rested on the bridge of his nose. Why did he suspect there would have been less injuries without the rescue expedition?

When Byodoin came into sight, Atobe flipped out a plastic sheet on the rough ground for him to rest the unconscious Marui. He restrained himself from asking what has happened.

He didn't have to ask, Byodoin was willing to just tell him the basic details of what happened.

"He's in fucking shock. Couldn't tell us from the bugs. Probably look at his head."

A brief examination suggested that "in fucking shock" meant "we brained him with a rock". Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Atobe examined the wound, pulling away hair from the sticky patch on Marui's scalp and spraying the antiseptic over the area, before rolling him into the recovery position.

"It would be better to keep him still until he regains consciousness," he told Byodoin. "However, I can't imagine anyone of us want to linger. I can keep attending to him if we must move."

"It was me or him, Atobe sir, and since Marui sir was already in shock, in made more sense just to knock him out. I am also uninjured, so there was no point in making more work," Ibu said sharply. "Just slap a neck brace on, strap him to a board so he doesn't move, and get him on the shuttle."
