[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 5, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the 4th expedition, Team 1 (Niou, Marui, Zaizen) and Team 2 (Sanada, Oshitari K, Mizuki) + Ibu tagging along to whichever he pleases. Technically they're in the same place so he can switch, too.

 

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

 

Pre-Expedition Events (Open until everyone gets tired of it): e.g. Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. This will also include everyone hopping on the shuttle to get to the seaside expedition location (total 7 expedition folks + one NPC pilot)

 

Expedition: (Open until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

 

Just to refresh your memory: Team 1 does outpost related scouting and evaluation of outpost locations, + a little drone diving, Team 2 goes looking for mystery organism(s) and clears out threats. Both teams will regroup in the shuttle at the end of each day to eat and rest.

 
Note: Expect bad weather, rain, and occasional disruptions to communications. Try not to get lost and keep some water on you.
 

There maaaay be an event halfway through the expedition :D

"Hajime." He offered Mizuki a wave and a smile. "Ready to go monster hunting?"

"Houou-san!" Mizuki greeted, before making a face. "You know I'd much rather be working on base."

He presented Byodoin with the box of chocolates. "Happy Valentine's Day, Houou-san. I'm sorry I can't spend it with you!"

It was easier to just go find Sanada at night to spare himself the indignity of being dragged off to bed to sleep as Sanada had done a couple of times. Niou finished up processing the data for the day and making plans for tomorrow's adventures out, before heading over to Sanada. "You done? Ready for bed?" he asked, poking Sanada in the leg with his foot. "I might actually sleep more than a couple of hours this time."

"Just finishing up the plan for tomorrow for team 2 and sending it back to Renji," Sanada said. He liked to keep his friend informed of what he planned to do and where he planned to go when out on mission just in case anything happened. It was also good for the base to have a copy of it anyway. "And is actually being forced to do physical activity tiring you out? I keep telling you that you need more cardio." Sanada sent off the message to Renji and did a quick final check of the systems as he set the data pad up to charge.

"Doing anything interesting tomorrow?" Hopefully more interesting than avoiding storms and sending out drones, hopefully.

Niou poked Sanada again with his foot because gosh the mention of exercise was actually unnecessary. "Rude. You should be glad I'm tired. If you weren't here, I'd probably just drink my weight in caffeine and power through the night." ... That was still an option.

"Hopefully not. The weather is bad enough that I don't think we need to add in fighting anything too exciting into the mix," Sanada said. Mizuki and Kenya weren't bad team members but they weren't trained in combat and the less fighting and hard labour they had to do, the better. They'd collected a few samples and had a couple of encounters with the alien life on the planet and that was more than interesting enough for them Sanada felt.

"And how is powering through the night going to help anyone?" Sanada poked Niou back with his own foot this time. Really, Niou was so ridiculous sometimes. The man could be brilliant but at other times he had the worst ideas. "Come on, before you're tempted to find the coffee."

Take the drones for a swim, poke at the soil, scream for Team 2 if something comes after you. Or shoot it, I don't know. Remember those rocks that weren't?

Niou had vanished as soon as possible the first day at the ocean, armed with his drones and equipment. And he set up his spot after careful scanning of the near vicinity to make sure there was nothing hiding under the sand, keeping the shuttle in sight just in case and a detection radar nearby.

He focused on maneuvering one of the drones around, to collect soil samples, letting the other machine slowly penetrate the ground to check bearing pressure.

He was tired of this already.

Oh, so that's where Niou had gotten off to. Getting to be on the same team as Zaizen was a huge plus, but Niou... he didn't even dislike the guy, but he was soooo cranky. This was going to be a long two weeks for everyone.

Carrying the equipment Zaizen had loaded him with, he mades his way over to Niou, stopping at a respectful distance. "So are we doing this outdoor-cat style where you come and go as you please and only show up for meals and a bed?"

Niou seriously considered just feigning deafness and pretending that Marui didn't exist. But, that would probably just make him stay around even longer because he was irritating like that. He glanced over and tilted his head in acknowledgement. "That's the plan. I'll leave a to do list every day if you need to know what to do."

Keep the area clear for Team 1, find the big scary thing(s) that built the nest poor Byodoin was found in, discover that things in the water don't always stay in the water.

Mizuki was not having a good time. It was just about as windy as the last time he was out on expedition, back out there on that mountain, and there was a noticeable static charge in the air.

There was a storm incoming, or Mizuki would eat his boots.

"Should we not...find shelter?" he asked with some trepidation.

Kenya nodded. He trusted Mizuki-san's instincts. "Yeah, I think we should. Can't find a nest-building creature if we're dead." He chuckled nervously.

"Come on you two, you just have to be good at dodging. As swift as the wind," Sanada said with a laugh. Though he was also scanning the horizon for either some shelter or at least enough objects taller than they were. It would be just their luck to pick a hideout that was infested by monsters. And as good as it felt to have weapons back in his hand, he'd rather not get into a surprise firefight with lethal creatures with Mizuki and the speedy Oshitari right beside him.

There's little to no warning when it happens, right when most of you are asleep.

Millions and millions of 14-legged, pebble-sized creatures crawl out of the Belt Ocean for their annual (?) spawning on land (think Christmas Island red crabs, but purple). They get everywhere; on equipment, in the shuttle, inside sleeping bags and boots ... everywhere. You might wake up to them parading over your face, or find them in your coffee mug. They're mostly harmless, but they might bite if threatened.

Worse, where little critters go, predators are sure to follow...

Niou jerked awake the moment he felt something on his face, smacking it away and whacking Sanada in the process, scrambling up to his feet in an instant of paranoia.

And oh god, what was this. OH my fucking god.

"Sanada." Niou kicked him in the side, in case the smack hadn't been enough.

"Oh please be quiet," grumbled Mizuki from across the sleeping area, blinking his eyes open. Then he screamed.

"Oh my god!!!" Mizuki was awake in a flash, and immediately climbed the tallest thing he could find. So here he was hanging onto a pipe for dear life while kicking away any critter that climbed too far up.

It was already all Mizuki could do to avoid passing out. He was only holding onto consciousness because he did not want to faint in the middle of this mass of crawling creatures, who would probably eat his corpse or something.

Sanada grumbled at the hits and then again at the screeching. It took him an embarrassingly long second for him to remember he was off on a mission and in a shuttle that was definitely susceptible to attack from creatures or weather. he jolted awake and looked around the ship. Okay. It was in one piece. But chaos was happening. He looked down at his shoulder when felt something tickling his neck and then spotted the little creature. Actually, he spotted a mass of little creatures. Ugh.

He suddenly understood the commotion but he didn't get the screaming. If they were destructive, they'd already have chunks out of them. He stood up, gently shaking the things off him and trying to be careful not to step on other ones. "Do you think they're in the engine?" If they got into the systems, they could cause a power outage and that would be far worse than being tickled while sleeping.

Bring in the calvary!

Ryuuzaki has assigned Tezuka to fly a supply shuttle to the the teams' new location. Akutsu and Oshitari Yuushi will be airdropped to help fix the shuttle and assess the crab situation, respectively. Fresh provisions and equipment will also be dropped off, together with a big ass bug vacuum.

Tezuka peered out the cockpit's window, spotting the camp up ahead. He was flying a very small craft, and they would be hovering over the drop zone in another five minutes. He flipped on the intercom and said, "Dr Oshitari, Akutsu-kun, I hope the two of you have strapped on your parachutes."
Maybe he could do a little spin or a loop de loop after dropping them off.

Akutsu wasn't entirely sure how he felt about having to parachute out of a shuttle, but...well. You only live once, or something like that. At least he'd paid attention during the quick training they'd gotten before they left.

He'd also packed just about everything he could imagine would be needed to fix the shuttle, and then some.

"Ready as I'm ever gonna be," Akutsu answered, securing the chute's harness over his nanosuit. "Here's hopin we don't end up like bird shit on a windshield..."

"No one will be, as you have put it, going splat on my watch. We will hover to 500 feet before you will have to jump out." Tezuka replied, rolling his eyes. "Also, please make sure to take care in case there's a parachute malfunction. No splats allowed. Hold hands if need be. Don't let your guard down."
