[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 5, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the 4th expedition, Team 1 (Niou, Marui, Zaizen) and Team 2 (Sanada, Oshitari K, Mizuki) + Ibu tagging along to whichever he pleases. Technically they're in the same place so he can switch, too.

 

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

 

Pre-Expedition Events (Open until everyone gets tired of it): e.g. Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. This will also include everyone hopping on the shuttle to get to the seaside expedition location (total 7 expedition folks + one NPC pilot)

 

Expedition: (Open until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

 

Just to refresh your memory: Team 1 does outpost related scouting and evaluation of outpost locations, + a little drone diving, Team 2 goes looking for mystery organism(s) and clears out threats. Both teams will regroup in the shuttle at the end of each day to eat and rest.

 
Note: Expect bad weather, rain, and occasional disruptions to communications. Try not to get lost and keep some water on you.
 

There maaaay be an event halfway through the expedition :D

Includes travel to the picturesque seaside location, nightly (for a given value of night) rest/meals, review of the day's adventures etc.

It was easier to just go find Sanada at night to spare himself the indignity of being dragged off to bed to sleep as Sanada had done a couple of times. Niou finished up processing the data for the day and making plans for tomorrow's adventures out, before heading over to Sanada. "You done? Ready for bed?" he asked, poking Sanada in the leg with his foot. "I might actually sleep more than a couple of hours this time."

"Just finishing up the plan for tomorrow for team 2 and sending it back to Renji," Sanada said. He liked to keep his friend informed of what he planned to do and where he planned to go when out on mission just in case anything happened. It was also good for the base to have a copy of it anyway. "And is actually being forced to do physical activity tiring you out? I keep telling you that you need more cardio." Sanada sent off the message to Renji and did a quick final check of the systems as he set the data pad up to charge.

"Doing anything interesting tomorrow?" Hopefully more interesting than avoiding storms and sending out drones, hopefully.

Niou poked Sanada again with his foot because gosh the mention of exercise was actually unnecessary. "Rude. You should be glad I'm tired. If you weren't here, I'd probably just drink my weight in caffeine and power through the night." ... That was still an option.

"Hopefully not. The weather is bad enough that I don't think we need to add in fighting anything too exciting into the mix," Sanada said. Mizuki and Kenya weren't bad team members but they weren't trained in combat and the less fighting and hard labour they had to do, the better. They'd collected a few samples and had a couple of encounters with the alien life on the planet and that was more than interesting enough for them Sanada felt.

"And how is powering through the night going to help anyone?" Sanada poked Niou back with his own foot this time. Really, Niou was so ridiculous sometimes. The man could be brilliant but at other times he had the worst ideas. "Come on, before you're tempted to find the coffee."

Niou grinned at that. "Maybe you need to call me for help if things get too out of hand, and I'll send my drones over to save you." As long as the weather was ok and he had an uninterrupted signal to them.

He poked Sanada again. And again. "I know where the caffeine is. I hardly have to go find it." Niou stretched his arms up and okay, before he drank some just to prove sanada wrong or something... "I just don't like sleep, you know this. Which is why I need you here."

"You'll be the first to know if we need back-up," Sanada said. Mostly because he'd be putting it out on open comms for the team at the first sign of trouble so that everyone who was part of the expedition and monitoring it would know.

"I know you know and you know I know that. Are we going to have a heart-to-heart because it's too late for that sort of thing." Sanada even gave a yawn as he gave a stretch to prove that he was not in the mood to talk about feelings. That was the type of conversation that had to happen before 8pm.

"Gosh, that puts me at such ease," Niou smiled a little.

He glanced at the time - approximately 10PM if they were following the arbitrary times set on the planet with no sunrise or sunset. Definitely way too early to sleep, if he was even going to tonight. "I mean, we could snuggle close and giggle like school girls and gossip under the blankets if you want," he laughed just at the idea of Sanada doing that. "Talk about our feelings and what boys we like."

"I don't giggle like a school girl," Sanada said. Yanagi might contradict that but he wasn't here to embarrass him so he could say whatever he wanted. "And I already know what boys you like... I'd really prefer not to hear more details about them." The less he knew about Niou and the pair of men he called boyfriends, the better his life would be. As long as they weren't stupid enough to get jealous over time he spent with Niou everything was fine as it was.

"I have total faith that if you put your mind to it, you could giggle like a school girl quite convincingly." It made him almost tempted to giggle to show Sanada how it was done.

Instead he settled for looking mock surprised at Sanada's accusation and Niou smacked him lightly on the arm with the back of his hand. "Oh my gosh, how did you know? Am I that obvious about it?" Niou tried to look embarrassed and flustered about it.

"But why would I need to giggle?" Sanada asked. He gently nudged Niou back, very much aware of his delicate chicken bones. "And none of you are subtle if even I've realized what's going on." Yanagi probably knew months before him but at least he'd finally clued in now.

"Because it brings you some sort of joy by releasing endorphins?" Niou frowned a little a the nudge back and smacked Sanada on the arm again, a bit harder this time. And then shook his hand because ow.

"Oh no, I'm so embarrassed. I was hoping that absolutely no one knew about my feelings for them. Having crushes is just such an embarrassing thing."

Sanada didn't bother to reply about the endorphins and just looked down at Niou's hand. He was pretty sure that hurt Niou more than it hurt him.

"If you're making your bed bigger and sturdier, I'm guessing it's more than a crush. Why would it be embarrassing?" Sanada asked. Maybe Niou didn't think Tachibana and Akutsu were respectable boyfriends and didn't want people to know they were together because of that. Sanada could potentially see that.

"Why is your arm so solid?!" Niou rubbed at his hand and stared at Sanada's arm. "It was like I hit a rock or something what the fuck."

He froze and... oh my god, it was actually kind of mortifying for Sanada of all people to mention his loft being sturdier of all things. "You don't say things like that!" Niou looked shocked, and then nudged Sanada on the leg with his foot. "Even if you know, you pretend not to! My bigger bed is simply to accomodate my 25 pillows for all you know."

"Because I have muscles and very little body fat?" Sanada suggested. Niou was probably lucky he wasn't actually flexing at the time. Niou probably would have broken something then.

Sanada blinked as Niou freaked out and wondered if this was how Yanagi felt whenever he freaked out to him about things. Probably. Sanada nudged Niou's foot back. "Would it be easier to talk about these things if we were under the blankets and gossipping like school girls?"

"Have you considered having less muscle and more body fat?" Niou asked, still rubbing at his injured hand. Something to hold against Sanada later.

He pretended to think about Sanada's question and... "Yes, yes it would definitely be easier. Much less embarrassing." He patted Sanada on the arm and edged towards their sleeping spot. "Whispering gossip, of course. I'd hate for absolutely everyone to know about my embarrassing feelings for people."

"Sadaharu and Renji will never stop teasing me if I do that," Sanada said. Inui would make up some new routine for him to do that would probably be twice as intense and painful and Yanagi would just tease him about getting lazy and joining him in avoiding the gym. Neither were good things.

Sanada followed Niou the short distance to what was their bed for the next few days and took a few seconds to get his boots off before crawling into it. "Considering the people on the mission with us, I don't think any of them could judge you for having feelings." He was the only single one and he judged Niou far more for his atrocious sleep, eating, and exercise habits than who he dated.

"it might be good to show them some weakness. Let yourself go a little so they feel more useful by helping you." Niou shrugged.

He waited patiently for Sanada to settle before he made his way into bed, burrowing under the blankets and squashing up into Sanada's side as had become his way of dealing with this awkward situation. He adjusted his pillow and kept the blankets over his head, draping an arm over Sanada's middle. "I think I am unfortunately in the position of being judged if I have feelings.... And if I don't have feelings. Regardless." He shrugged. "And like, having awkward feelings after like 7 months of knowing someone? That's a bit awkward."

"It's better if I don't give Renji a reason to fuss over me. It's nice but annoying," Sanada said. It was nice to know he was cared for but neither he nor Yanagi did things by half, especially since they were both stubborn in their own ways.

Sanada sighed as Niou got situated beside him with his little routine of pillow and blanket moving. He still wasn't used to having someone so clingy share his bed but at least Niou didn't take up too much space and was, somewhat distressingly, light. "Since when do you care about what random people think about you? And isn't it normal to have feelings grow as you get to know someone? Unless you only believe in love at first sight." Niou probably was a delicate as a Disney princess so maybe he was an instant love sort of guy.

"Perhaps I should give him more things to fuss about. He might take some of his attention off you." Kirahara could be an excellent person for that job... He'd consider it when they got back.

Niou hid his grin under the blankets before he popped his head out to look up at Sanada. "Ah, I so want someone to finish my... Sandwiches." He laughed to himself and snuggled down again. Sanada definitely was much too solid for true comfort.

"He doesn't need the stress. Stop your evil plotting now. And if you sing, I'm kicking you out of bed," Sanada aid. He probably wouldn't actually kick Niou out only because he'd then have to hear him whine about bruises. But he would certainly gently nudge him away. He did not need Disney songs stuck in his head all night.

"Kick me out and break you promise to keep me warm and help me sleep this trip? That's not very honourable of you." Niou had to smother comments about dishonour on Sanada's cow, because that probably wouldn't be appreciated.

He snuggled into Sanada's side again, already starting to drape over him to get as much warmth as possible. "How utterly opposed would you be to doing this back at base?"

Sanada frowned at having his honour called into question. "Don't sing and we won't have to find out," Sanada said. He supposed he could just try to muffle any singing by squishing a pillow over Niou's head.

"You wouldn't like my schedule back at base and your boyfriends wouldn't like me," Sanada said. He carefully moved his arm out from under Niou to be slightly around him. He wasn't quite comfortable holding Niou close when he was still awake but he also didn't like his arm falling asleep while Niou acted like a human octopus.

Just to be a pest, Niou did hum a few notes of before he smothered his laughter into Sanada's shoulder and stopped.

"My boyfriends." God that was weird hearing that from Sanada even though the term was entirely correct. "I could do it, if I'm allowed to sneak into your room at some point in the night when I get tired and actually want to sleep." And then he was sure if he was sleeping soundly, Sanada would try and let him sleep like a nice fellow. "My boyfriends, as you put them... are surprisingly open minded." Niou tensed up a little at the arm but took the opportunity to worm a little closer, shifting to lie a little more on top of Sanada and hug him more.

Sanada rolled his eyes at the humming but fortunately Niou stopped before he had to use his pillow to smother him.

"I'm not sure Oshitari would like people sneaking in. He's a bit shy. And I really don't think they'd like you leaving them to sleep with a different man." Like if Niou really needed someone to share a bed with him to get some decent sleep he supposed he would have to do it but he was sure that the boyfriends really wouldn't like it. It was one thing to do it on a mission when they weren't around but definitely another to do it at the base.
