[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 5, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the 4th expedition, Team 1 (Niou, Marui, Zaizen) and Team 2 (Sanada, Oshitari K, Mizuki) + Ibu tagging along to whichever he pleases. Technically they're in the same place so he can switch, too.

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Open until everyone gets tired of it): e.g. Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. This will also include everyone hopping on the shuttle to get to the seaside expedition location (total 7 expedition folks + one NPC pilot)

Expedition: (Open until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

Just to refresh your memory: Team 1 does outpost related scouting and evaluation of outpost locations, + a little drone diving, Team 2 goes looking for mystery organism(s) and clears out threats. Both teams will regroup in the shuttle at the end of each day to eat and rest.

Note: Expect bad weather, rain, and occasional disruptions to communications. Try not to get lost and keep some water on you.

There maaaay be an event halfway through the expedition :D

Learn how to use equipment, pack some snacks, exchange valechoco, wave goodbye etc.

Includes travel to the picturesque seaside location, nightly (for a given value of night) rest/meals, review of the day's adventures etc.

Take the drones for a swim, poke at the soil, scream for Team 2 if something comes after you. Or shoot it, I don't know. Remember those rocks that weren't?

Keep the area clear for Team 1, find the big scary thing(s) that built the nest poor Byodoin was found in, discover that things in the water don't always stay in the water.

Niou had vanished as soon as possible the first day at the ocean, armed with his drones and equipment. And he set up his spot after careful scanning of the near vicinity to make sure there was nothing hiding under the sand, keeping the shuttle in sight just in case and a detection radar nearby.

He focused on maneuvering one of the drones around, to collect soil samples, letting the other machine slowly penetrate the ground to check bearing pressure.

He was tired of this already.

Oh, so that's where Niou had gotten off to. Getting to be on the same team as Zaizen was a huge plus, but Niou... he didn't even dislike the guy, but he was soooo cranky. This was going to be a long two weeks for everyone.

Carrying the equipment Zaizen had loaded him with, he mades his way over to Niou, stopping at a respectful distance. "So are we doing this outdoor-cat style where you come and go as you please and only show up for meals and a bed?"

Niou seriously considered just feigning deafness and pretending that Marui didn't exist. But, that would probably just make him stay around even longer because he was irritating like that. He glanced over and tilted his head in acknowledgement. "That's the plan. I'll leave a to do list every day if you need to know what to do."

Marui raised an eyebrow, like hell he was gonna be Niou's lackey. He kept this to himself though, knowing starting an argument was pointless. "Aaaand if Zaizen decides he needs your help? You'll come, right?" Better figure this out sooner than later.

"Considering that he seems quite confident that the water stuff is his job and he has speciality equipment for it from his company, I doubt he needs my help." Niou checked the screen and pressed some buttons to finish up the sample collection in that section, moving on to the next.

Oh, it was the passive aggressive stuff again, great. Marui rolled his eyes. "Whatever. Try not to get eaten by a rock or whatever the hell else is out here."

Niou kept looking at his screen and fiddled with controlling the drone. "Okay." And then he fell silent, rather glad to just solidly ignore Marui's existence.

"Good talk." Welp, time to go find Zaizen.

Mizuki hovered around the departure area, box of chocolates in hand.

Byodoin would come to see him off, right...?

Mizuki was not having a good time. It was just about as windy as the last time he was out on expedition, back out there on that mountain, and there was a noticeable static charge in the air.

There was a storm incoming, or Mizuki would eat his boots.

"Should we not...find shelter?" he asked with some trepidation.

Kenya nodded. He trusted Mizuki-san's instincts. "Yeah, I think we should. Can't find a nest-building creature if we're dead." He chuckled nervously.

"Come on you two, you just have to be good at dodging. As swift as the wind," Sanada said with a laugh. Though he was also scanning the horizon for either some shelter or at least enough objects taller than they were. It would be just their luck to pick a hideout that was infested by monsters. And as good as it felt to have weapons back in his hand, he'd rather not get into a surprise firefight with lethal creatures with Mizuki and the speedy Oshitari right beside him.

As swift as the wind. Mizuki looked at his companions, who probably had a better chance at accomplishing that than himself.

Though perhaps Sanada would be struck first, because he was taller.

"I don't think I have your reflexes," said Mizuki doubtfully, also looking around. He spotted some strange structures in the distance that looked awfully like the ones in their mission brief... "Is that what I think it is?" He pointed in their direction.

Sanada looked where Mizuki was pointing and then pulled out his datapad to check the brief and gave a reluctant nod. It was what they were looking for but in this situation, he'd rather have their mission be unfinished. "It matches the information we have. We need to remain quiet and calm." He took a deep breath himself and considered the possibilities of what they'd find and how they would face it.

Kenya was pretty nervous because being calm was not his specialty. Still, he knew he had to keep it cool. "Maybe whatever built them is long gone?" He said hopefully.

It was easier to just go find Sanada at night to spare himself the indignity of being dragged off to bed to sleep as Sanada had done a couple of times. Niou finished up processing the data for the day and making plans for tomorrow's adventures out, before heading over to Sanada. "You done? Ready for bed?" he asked, poking Sanada in the leg with his foot. "I might actually sleep more than a couple of hours this time."

"Just finishing up the plan for tomorrow for team 2 and sending it back to Renji," Sanada said. He liked to keep his friend informed of what he planned to do and where he planned to go when out on mission just in case anything happened. It was also good for the base to have a copy of it anyway. "And is actually being forced to do physical activity tiring you out? I keep telling you that you need more cardio." Sanada sent off the message to Renji and did a quick final check of the systems as he set the data pad up to charge.

"Doing anything interesting tomorrow?" Hopefully more interesting than avoiding storms and sending out drones, hopefully.

Niou poked Sanada again with his foot because gosh the mention of exercise was actually unnecessary. "Rude. You should be glad I'm tired. If you weren't here, I'd probably just drink my weight in caffeine and power through the night." ... That was still an option.

"Hopefully not. The weather is bad enough that I don't think we need to add in fighting anything too exciting into the mix," Sanada said. Mizuki and Kenya weren't bad team members but they weren't trained in combat and the less fighting and hard labour they had to do, the better. They'd collected a few samples and had a couple of encounters with the alien life on the planet and that was more than interesting enough for them Sanada felt.

"And how is powering through the night going to help anyone?" Sanada poked Niou back with his own foot this time. Really, Niou was so ridiculous sometimes. The man could be brilliant but at other times he had the worst ideas. "Come on, before you're tempted to find the coffee."

Niou grinned at that. "Maybe you need to call me for help if things get too out of hand, and I'll send my drones over to save you." As long as the weather was ok and he had an uninterrupted signal to them.

He poked Sanada again. And again. "I know where the caffeine is. I hardly have to go find it." Niou stretched his arms up and okay, before he drank some just to prove sanada wrong or something... "I just don't like sleep, you know this. Which is why I need you here."

"You'll be the first to know if we need back-up," Sanada said. Mostly because he'd be putting it out on open comms for the team at the first sign of trouble so that everyone who was part of the expedition and monitoring it would know.

"I know you know and you know I know that. Are we going to have a heart-to-heart because it's too late for that sort of thing." Sanada even gave a yawn as he gave a stretch to prove that he was not in the mood to talk about feelings. That was the type of conversation that had to happen before 8pm.
