It is 0200 UTC. A loud wailing emergency siren pierces the quiet of the sleeping base, waking you up instantly (or not). In your bleary-eyed state you realize this is the evacuation signal you’ve all been trained to recognise. Time to go!

Notes:
- Only dept heads were told about the drill, but they only knew that it would be held, not when
- The only ones who know the full picture are Byodoin and CDR Ryuuzaki
- Everyone has gone through the safety training and ideally knows to evacuate to the designated outdoor location… right?

Byodoin had warned them about scientists and their skewed priorities, and he hadn't been wrong. Hiyoshi had been tasked with checking that areas were clear and properly evacuated, and he was just finishing his sweep of B3 when he was alerted by radio of someone entering the science labs instead of exiting.

Well, he'd see about that. Hiyoshi was on Inui's trail in a flash, and he announced himself the moment the other man was in sight, closing the distance as he spoke. "Sir, the base is evacuating. Leave your things and come with me."

Ah, he had not factored in the possibility of security trying to chase him out as he monitored the time. "I will be following you in ... 14 minutes, Petty Officer Hiyoshi," Inui said, going to turn off some of the machines that he could safely do so. "Given the volatile nature of some of these experiments, it would be unfortunate if the lab's power shut off or the ventilation failed." And if it was a drill, then at least he knew he had done the correct things. "If you wish to be helpful, please go secure the special containment area. We wouldn't want the live specimens in there to get loose."

Hiyoshi didn't know anything about the nature of Inui's experiments, and he didn't need to. Scientists always thought their experiments were more important than they really were. Hiyoshi's job was to ensure everyone was evacuated safely, and you better believe he was going to see it through.

"All necessary machinery is hooked up to backup power, and the special containment area has been secured remotely. Please come with me, I have been authorized to use force if you do not comply."

He was within a meter or two of Inui now-- close enough to engage Inui if that was the route he chose.

"And I will comply, in... 13 minutes," Inui said easily, swirling the solution in the round bottomed flask quickly. "I advise you not to use physical force suddenly on me, Petty Officer," he said, glancing at Hiyoshi again. "There are a number of chemicals here that will react with the metals in the lab in a highly explosive manner. Which would significantly shorten the time frame the base has to get to safety."

Ah, he needed to grab his notebooks from his office as well on the way out.

"Thank you for the warning." But it wasn't going to slow Hiyoshi down. Hiyoshi would try not to break anything on purpose of course, but anything chemical Hiyoshi had to be aware of was one Inui had to be aware of too, so without the scare aspect they were still on even footing.

Hiyoshi reached to grab Inui's wrist-- with luck, the man would give in once Hiyoshi called his bluff.

Inui paused, looking down at Hiyoshi's hand on his wrist, his swirling of the chemicals stopping. "Remove your hand from my person immediately," he said with a frown. There was no bluff at all, Hiyoshi, that had been Inui being casually informative. "You are not a trained chemist and are lacking in appropriate PPE." Thankfully Inui's glasses were specially designed to double as lab-appropriate glasses.

"That wont be a problem, I'll be leaving shortly." Along with Inui, one way or another. Inui got one final warning-- "Place the flask down," --before Hiyoshi twisted Inui's arm behind his back into a compliance lock.

Inui was just deeply unimpressed by this whole thing. "I can't put the flask safely down without both hands free, it needs to be clamped into place" he said, shifting slightly to test the strength of the hold - very impressive, Hiyoshi Wakashi, Inui noted it down in his mental file of Hiyoshi. "Let go."

The feeling was mutual, Inui. "You can bring it with you, then." Hiyoshi wasn't letting go just so Inui could make a break for it. No, he was pushing Inui in the direction of the exit, giving his arm a painful tweak whenever a little extra persuasion was necessary.

"No! It is a heat and UV sensitive compound! It will deteriorate if we take it outside!" Inui did hold his ground at that point, refusing the move even as his arm was twisted. "It is stable in its current state. If it deteriorates, I will have to start the synthesis from the beginning and it will put my research back 8 weeks."

Ugh, scientists. Hiyoshi couldn't care less about Inui's work being set back, but the fact that Inui was holding his ground despite what Hiyoshi knew was not an insignificant amount of pain, meant that this was clearly important to Inui and he was likely to put up a fight if he didn't get his way. In this situation, it would be faster to let him have his way and put the flask down... if he could trust Inui to do that and only that.

"I am going to let you go so you can put the flask down safely, and then we're both going to evacuate without any other delays. Understood?" With that, Hiyoshi let go and stepped back. If Inui didn't comply after this, he'd just have to knock him out.

Inui nodded in agreement and moved quickly back to the fumehood to put the flask safely away, covering it with the aluminium foil nearby to make sure it was completely safe. "Thank you." He did one last scan of the nearby experiments and ran through the recent log of experimental data in his mind before deciding that no, everything else was fine.

He stepped away for a moment and then ah, his data. "The chances of you letting me go to my office to get my notebook is.... 0.9%," Inui said, looking at Hiyoshi. Well, he supposed the data that wasn't on the cloud (for security reasons) was all up his head anyway, he would just have to spend extra time writing it all down again if this was a proper evacuation and it was lost. "Nevermind. Let us go. Press that shut down switch on the wall and I will lock the doors behind us."

Good calculations, Inui was right on the money with that one. Hiyoshi still would have preferred that Inui move a little faster, but at least he wasn't making a run for it, so he'd deal.

Hiyoshi resisted rolling his eyes at being ordered around but complied, flipping the switch and waiting by the door, (the inside, not the outside,) until Inui exited.

Inui watched to make sure that yes, Hiyoshi had shut things down and then left the lab, locking it securely behind them. In case some idiots got bright ideas about going through the lab.

"Thank you for your assistance, Petty officer Hiyoshi," Inui said with a nod. "I will see myself to the designated assembly area." And then he was off, moving towards the stairs and not caring if Hiyoshi was following him or not.

Idiots like Inui, you mean?

The stairs only went one way, so Hiyoshi was confident that Inui was indeed evacuating now. And if he wasn't... well, his job was B3. If Inui was on another floor, he was someone else's problem.

"Labs clear," he reported to the radio, heading off to check the next area and waiting for further instructions.
