Who: Tooyama and Byodoin
When: 21st June
Where: OUTSIDE LET'S GO GO GO
What:wurm WORM HUNTING
“Hay! Byodoin! How many worms do we need to get this time?” Kintarou asked, bouncing behind Byodoin as they headed to the ground vehicles. “Do they need to be big ones? Do you think I can rip one in half completely this time?”
They had been in the middle of training, but that had been abruptly changed by Byodoin - clearly because Kintarou was in a SUPERIOR CONDITION this morning and getting too close to beating him - and they were apparently now off to worm hunt. And Tooyama had many questions about this new, far more interesting, part of training for the day.
He ran for the vehicle and slammed into the driver’s side, already trying to climb in. “I WANNA DRIVE THIS TIME.”
Byodoin had been ignoring most of Kintarou questions- the best way to avoid more questions, really- but the request to drive got his attention.
"No. Put on your suit and get in the passenger's side. You can drive when the old biddy decides to give you a license to do so." Byodoin replied, unamused by the thought of Kintarou plowing over things in military owned vehicles. That was definitely a bad idea. "We aren't going far anyway. We just need the flesh from one worm for science."
“I’ve driven ONCE, I can do it!!” Kintarou insisted loudly, but he did pull away from the vehicle to start wrestling the suit on. “You remember right, cause you were definitely there I remember!! I drove it into the side of a BUILDING and BROKE THE WALL!” It had been very successful. “And then it went BOOOM!!! I bet I could do that with a sand worm we should try it Byodoin!!”
"No. That's not what the vehicles are for, brat." Byodoin growled, getting into the driver's seat himself so that they could return to base on the vehicle they left in. He didn't feel like walking around the desert. "Anyway, it'll be better if you just kill the worm with your hands. Less damaged tissue for the scientists."
Guns and explosions on the other hand could damage the meat.
Kintarou sighed loudly and finished pulling on the suit. “Old man Byodoin is no fun at all,” he said, sighing again. Loudly. “Maybe 10 years ago, you would have been more fun and hit a sandworm with a vehicle.”
He climbed into the passenger seat and flexed his fingers in the suit. They weren’t quite as good as using his bare hands, but they were definitely useable and good enough for worm ripping. “I need a KNIFE THOUGH first, ‘cause the skin is slippery and hard to get fingers in.”
Byodoin tossed a big old sheathed knife at the kid, willing to give in to that request at least before turning the transport on and heading out the bay doors.
"Let me know if you spot a worm and we'll stop." He instructed the brat.
Kintarou clutched the knife, peering through the windows at the endless stretch of sand and daylight. The heat was bad in the suit, but he had a feeling if he tried to take it off, Byodoin would drive straight back to the base and kick him around the gym for a few hours and there would be no worms.
He knew what to look for at least, and it didn’t take long for Kintarou to spot the telltale shifting sand that indicated a worm was not far underneath it and would break the surface. “THERE THERE THERE!” he yelled, whacking Byodoin in the arm and waving to the side. “GO GO Byodoin!!! Drive faster!!!”
Byodoin had noticed the shifting sands too, and had already turned the transport that direction. Like a scene from an action movie the crappy transport vehicle pulled up to the worm just as it emerged, and Byodoin shoved Kintarou out the door to go face it.
"It's all yours now, Brat! Make me proud!" He cackled.
Kintarou had the door open just in time to be pushed out and he pulled the knife out from the sheath. That got thrown behind him as he went sprinting for the worm, covering the last few metres.
He'd done it a few times now, dodging the few worm attacks before stabbing the knife in. And then screaming as he wrestled the worm onto the sand, ripping out chunks with his bare hands to get a good grip.
Byodoin cackled as he watched, though he was ready to jump in and help if it was necessary. Not that it would be necessary... Kintarou was a monster. A worm killing beast.
Finally Byodoin hopped out of the vehicle to look at the corpse Kintarou was wailing on. "I think it's dead now. Cut off some good chunks of the meat."
At some point the worm did stop moving, but Kintarou didn’t notice as he kept screaming and tearing at it. And then Byodoin’s voice cut through the violence and he stopped, dropping the worm remains he was holding. He looked at the worm which was torn almost in two by now, with some fairly serious damage around the rip.
“I bet YOU couldn’t have killed it that easy!!” Kintarou gloated, starting to uselessly stab at the worm corpse with the knife to cut off bits. It would have been easier to just RIP THEM OFF with his hands, honestly.
Byodoin rolled his eyes, continuing to survey the land as Kintarou harvested the worm flesh they needed. Let him gloat if it made the fool feel good.
He paused, noticing a small disturbance in the sand. Walking over he reached down and pulled up... a small little squirming grub thing. A baby sandworm? He stared at it. And then shrugged. "We can bring them this too I guess."
Kintarou hacked at the corpse a bit more, ripping off a bit more meat - how much was he meant to cut off? Surely it’d be easier to just take the whole severed half of the sandworm with them?
He looked up from his job to ask Byodoin if they could just drag the worm behind them and then paused as he spotted the… BABY WORM? “It is SO SMALL!!!” Kintarou abandoned his job to scuttle forward, making grabbing hands to take it from Byodoin. “Do you want me to CRUSH IT? ‘Cause I probably can with just my HANDS.”
"Science nerds will want it alive, probably. I wonder what it eats." Byodoin poked the squishy little thing and snorted at the stupid tiny little teeth.
It was kind of cute.
"That's probably enough worm meat anyway. Let's load it all onto the transit and head back."
It definitely didn’t look anywhere near as scary as the fully grown one and Kintarou had to stop himself from reaching out to grab it and squish. Because that would have probably resulted in the baby worm being squashed. Right right, need to get back to his worm meat.
“OKAY!! You look after the SMALL BABY WORM okay Byodoin??” Kintarou started to gather up the chunks of worm meat that he’d hacked off, as well as the pulverised pieces he’d ripped, dumping one armful in the vehicle storage before running for more.
Byodoin stood there holding the baby worm by the scruff of it's neck, watching Kintarou load up entirely too much meat. Okay, they'd give the extra to the cook.
"When you're done, get in the passenger's seat. I'm going to have you hold the baby." It was sadly the best option he had. He hadn't thought to bring a cage out with him.
“OKAY!!!” Kintarou went back for one last armful, dumping the rest of it into the pile. And the rest of the sandworm… he did ponder for all of a second about just dragging it back himself, but Byodoin would probably get mad at him.
He scrambled back into the passenger’s seat, mindless of the sheer amount of worm-muck on him and held his hands out for the baby. “I will make sure it doesn’t GET AWAY, don’t worry Byodoin.”
"Yeah, and don't squish it. Science will want it alive." Byodoin got in the driver's seat and started back for the base.
“I will be SUPER CAREFUL don’t worry,” Kintarou said and he held the worm on his lap, digging his fingers into its sides to keep it still. And okay, maybe if he made a few holes in it with his fingers before they got back to the base that way okay, right?
