[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 2, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the second expedition, Team 1 (Mizuki-Yukimura-Oshitari K) and Team 2 (Marui-Tooyama-Kikumaru-Ibu). 

 

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Opens Aug 6, lasts till Aug 8 or until everyone gets tired of it): Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. 

Expedition: (Opens Aug 9 and lasts till Aug 23, or until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

??? Yes, but that did not explain 'Wilhelmina'??? Or why Eiji was naming a shuttle after Julius Caesar's wife.

"I... see, yes, I'm familiar with Julius Caesar," said Mizuki faintly, then decided not to continue with that topic.

"I'm ... not particularly enthusiastic, but I understand it is part of my contract, so," he said instead, answering Eiji's question. "I'll do my best to make sure all procedures are safe!"

Eiji nodded encouragingly, because Mizuki seemed a little iffy about both Julius Caesar and the mission.

"The mission will be fun!" Eiji assured him. "Like, I've flown scientists out back when we were first looking for rocks 'n stuff nearby and I think as long as no one gets eaten by sandworms or - y'know, a mountain doesn't collapse on you, it'll all be easy-peasy!"

Mizuki was not reassured in the least. Being eaten or trapped in a rockslide were very tangible risks on this excursion.

"It's good to know that you're experienced!" he said, trying to console himself. "I'm sure everyone made it back those times...right?"

Eiji thought about it. "I don't remember anyone dying on expeditions here on Izanagi," he said. "But! When I was flying missions on Mars there was this one team that was supposed to go down into that big canyon on the north ice cap and they never came back. Spooky, right?" he added, wiggling his fingers for effect.

Mizuki had certainly heard about the incident -- it was brought up in SWS training videos all the time. He wondered if Eiji might have any insider information, though, since not much was known by the public.

"Do you know what happened?" he asked eagerly.

"With the people?" Eiji asked, excited to tell the most famous creepy story of the Mars bases. He clambered into the empty seat beside Mizuki to tell the story.

"Weell the pilot who took 'em out said that the plan was to land far enough from the canyon 'n use the shuttle as a kinda anchor so they could descend into it... So the team had these reaaally long wires 'cuz the canyon is like super deep, and they were being lowered... but then one team member commed the pilot 'n said that they'd found a cave right in the side of the rock wall - 'n a few minutes after that - SNAP! The wires went completely limp!"

Mizuki listened, spellbound, as Kikumaru told the story. He hadn't heard any of that before, just that the team had disappeared in an "accident".

"How shocking!" he exclaimed. "They just vanished like that? Did no one go after them?"

Eiji nodded, positively glowing at the attention Mizuki was giving him and his story.

"Super shocking," he confirmed. "They sent out a rescue shuttle from Prime, I was just an ensign so I was on navi because it was an important mission. We went to the coordinates 'n got the other shuttle back but the pilot was all shaken 'n stuff. We sent in a drone to see but -"

Suddenly realising he was about to tell a non-military person UEA stuff, he cut himself off with an embarrassed smile, getting up from the chair. "The rest's classified, sorry. Let's just say the signal disappeared when the drone reached the cave," he finished with a wink.

"Aww..." Mizuki was sorely disappointed when Kikumaru stopped, but figured that military secrets were secrets after all. "Still, it's quite disturbing, don't you think? Almost as if the cave was a portal to another dimension. I suppose they didn't send any more rescue teams after that."
