[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 2, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the second expedition, Team 1 (Mizuki-Yukimura-Oshitari K) and Team 2 (Marui-Tooyama-Kikumaru-Ibu).

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Opens Aug 6, lasts till Aug 8 or until everyone gets tired of it): Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission.

Expedition: (Opens Aug 9 and lasts till Aug 23, or until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

If Oshitari wanted to go first... well, Yukimura had no problems with that. "We have the flags," he said. "Oshitari can take the lead with them and we can follow. Mizuki, you should follow him and I'll be after that."

They still had their communication devices should Oshitari get too far ahead of them. He just hoped the string of reflective tags would 1) reach from the outcropping to the top of the mountain and 2) not have a gust of wind rip the line.

Kenya nodded. "That's a great plan. I'll set the path for you two!" He grinned, ever the optimist. "Mizuki-san should be at the back, though, unless you also have experience climbing mountains, Dr. Yukimura?" Two experienced people sandwiching the non-experienced made sense, but if they all had the same level of experience, then they would be fine.

"I don't mind either way," Mizuki opined. "Dr. Yukimura seems quite capable. We can mark out a trail so Dr. Yukimura can take his time if he comes across something interesting, perhaps?"

"I've done my fair share of mountain hiking," Yukimura replied. He paused at Mizuki's suggestion then looked up the cliff side. "I think we can ignore specimens right now. It's too windy and dusty to do anything properly. Our main focus should be getting up the plateau and setting up camp."

Kenya had to agree. "Maybe once we have camp set up, we can focus on specimens more." He was seriously worried about someone getting blown off the mountain just because they wanted to pick up a weed. "Okay, I'm going on ahead. I'll stake down flags every 15 meters."

"Okay, Mr. Oshitari," Mizuki nodded. "Stay safe! We'll go up slowly after you." He started following after Kenya, carefully putting one foot in front of the other. Hopefully there wouldn't be a rockfall or anything awful..

Just as he had that thought, a rumbling from above had Mizuki scrambling backwards, only to have rocks fall onto the spot Mizuki had been standing on.

"Oh my god," he shrieked. That was a close shave. Wait, but now the path was blocked! "Mr. Oshitari?!?! Are you all right?"

Shit. Yukimura braced himself, just in case Mizuki lost his footing, then tugged on the line to see if it had been severed due to the rocks. It didn't feel loose, so the new path should still be marked.

"We'll just have to go around it," Yukimura shouted at Mizuki. "Go to the right so we don't mess up the flag markers."

That had been quite a shock! Luckily, Kenya was okay, and from the sound of it, the others were, too.

"I'm okay!" He shouted.

In school, he had been told that if you get separated from your group, you should stay put, so he did just that.

"Stay put and geo-tag your location!" Mizuki called over, while carefully manoeuvring to the right as suggested by Yukimura. "Be careful, the ground may have destabilised", he warned, checking the grip on his boots to ensure he didn't slip while climbing.

Yukimura nodded, though he doubted Mizuki could see it, and slowly followed suit. So far, so good. "Make sure there's enough room for us," he yelled up to Kenya since he didn't know exactly how far up the nurse was at the moment. "Mizuki, see if you can use the fallen rock as a foothold. I'm moving further to your right just in case it comes loose and falls."

Kenya geotagged his location and then tested the area around him. "All good!" He cried, holding the flags and waiting patiently for the others to join him.

Mizuki sighed and buckled on his climbing harness (it didn’t seem like a hard climb, but safety first!). Times like these, he even found himself missing the dingy old space station he used to work on.

He aimed his SWS-issue climbing hook at a solid-looking rock face, then tugged it a few times to make sure it was secure before threading the rope through his harness and handing the other end to Yukimura.

“Here I go, then,” he said, and started hoisting himself up, using the fallen rock as a foothold. It was less sturdy than he thought, and quite slippery.

Yukimura waited until Mizuki was far enough ahead before he started to climb. If the rock wasn't going to hold, better to wait to see how the safety person did before he tried it. Unfortunately, said rock would likely only be able to be used as leverage for Mizuki, but at least he'd know where not to stand.

"Looking good. Keep going."

Kenya stayed tight, starting to hum to himself as he waited. When he got bored with that, he started juggling some rocks. Honestly, sitting still was the worst.

Mizuki could feel himself start to panic as the number of solid foot holds started to diminish with alarming rapidity.

"Keep calm, keep calm," he told himself, trying not to drop his equipment as he fitted climbing protection into the cracks.
