[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 2, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the second expedition, Team 1 (Mizuki-Yukimura-Oshitari K) and Team 2 (Marui-Tooyama-Kikumaru-Ibu).

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Opens Aug 6, lasts till Aug 8 or until everyone gets tired of it): Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission.

Expedition: (Opens Aug 9 and lasts till Aug 23, or until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

Mountain climbing, dealing with the elements, tripping over rocks...

Luckily, the comms tower has been (precariously) lowered in pieces onto a relatively flat halfway point.

Unfortunately, it was too windy and dangerous to drop personnel, so the team will have to make their way there and carry the equipment all the way up the mountain.

Expect an... event... about halfway through the expedition.

Mizuki shifted his pack and looked up the looming expanse of rock with dread. How long would it take to scale this mountain?! The footing was precarious, and there were no trails, so they had to pick their way carefully through the rocks. They would probably need to do a fair bit of rock climbing too, depending on their luck. It was only the beginning of the expedition, and Mizuki was already feeling exhausted.

Kenya wasn't buckling under the weight of his pack,so that was good...but he was a bit nervous as he stood next to Mizuki, looking up the mountain. "It's...tall." He laughed. The wind was terrible, and he hoped it wasn't going to make their job difficult.

"Slow and steady wins the race!" said Mizuki, trying to sound cheerful. The wind was howling and whipping sand in their faces, so he was almost shouting. "Let's leave markers to make sure we don't end up circling around."

How Mizuki was cheerful was beyond his comprehension at this moment, but Yukimura heard the suggestion and quickly looked through his pack. A string of multicolored flags. That should work. And if he had them, the others should too. "Maybe we can tie these together," he shouted into the wind. "And use them as Mizuki suggested."

Kenya looked absolutely horrified at Mizuki's statement. "Slow?? I can't go slow!" He sighed. This was worse than he thought. Though he had to admit he wasn't getting anywhere fast with the wind the way it was. "Okay, that sounds like a good plan!" He grabbed his flags from his bag as well. "Great idea, guys!"

"Rushing will just lead to accidents," Mizuki reasoned, taking out the flags from his bag as well. "It'd be bad if someone gets lost in a dust storm." He secured one to an outcrop, hoping it wouldn't blow off in the wind, and experimentally flashed a light at it.

"Oh good, they're reflective." Mizuki wasn't sure if that was helpful or not considering it was always bright out, but supposed they might be originally designed for something else.

If Oshitari wanted to go first... well, Yukimura had no problems with that. "We have the flags," he said. "Oshitari can take the lead with them and we can follow. Mizuki, you should follow him and I'll be after that."

They still had their communication devices should Oshitari get too far ahead of them. He just hoped the string of reflective tags would 1) reach from the outcropping to the top of the mountain and 2) not have a gust of wind rip the line.

Kenya nodded. "That's a great plan. I'll set the path for you two!" He grinned, ever the optimist. "Mizuki-san should be at the back, though, unless you also have experience climbing mountains, Dr. Yukimura?" Two experienced people sandwiching the non-experienced made sense, but if they all had the same level of experience, then they would be fine.

"I don't mind either way," Mizuki opined. "Dr. Yukimura seems quite capable. We can mark out a trail so Dr. Yukimura can take his time if he comes across something interesting, perhaps?"

"I've done my fair share of mountain hiking," Yukimura replied. He paused at Mizuki's suggestion then looked up the cliff side. "I think we can ignore specimens right now. It's too windy and dusty to do anything properly. Our main focus should be getting up the plateau and setting up camp."

Kenya had to agree. "Maybe once we have camp set up, we can focus on specimens more." He was seriously worried about someone getting blown off the mountain just because they wanted to pick up a weed. "Okay, I'm going on ahead. I'll stake down flags every 15 meters."

"Okay, Mr. Oshitari," Mizuki nodded. "Stay safe! We'll go up slowly after you." He started following after Kenya, carefully putting one foot in front of the other. Hopefully there wouldn't be a rockfall or anything awful..

Just as he had that thought, a rumbling from above had Mizuki scrambling backwards, only to have rocks fall onto the spot Mizuki had been standing on.

"Oh my god," he shrieked. That was a close shave. Wait, but now the path was blocked! "Mr. Oshitari?!?! Are you all right?"

They had finished rescuing the ill fortuned team two, and so the rescue team had decided to drop by and pick up team one on the way back.

Mizuki was alerted to the incoming party by his communicator. Once he had (somewhat obscured) visual of the shuttle, he carefully made his way out from behind the rock he'd been sheltering under, and waved. Hopefully they would be able to see him despite the sand and dust blowing everywhere.

The shuttle's doors open, and out strolled a cocky looking Byodoin.

"Hey there cutie, need a ride?" He called out to Mizuki, feeling kind of playful since he was currently in his element- leading a rescue mission and all.

"Sorry, do I know you?!" Mizuki didn't recognise Byodoin at all behind the helmet and facial hair, having remembered him last as being clean-shaven and well-groomed from his own efforts. The dust didn't help either.

Byodoin actually sputtered at that. Sure he was a little hairy, but it had only been a few days. His growth couldn't be that bad yet. Besides, he still had his cool voice and striking figure.

"That's rude, Safety. I came all the way out here to get you, you could at least be a little nice to me."

"Oh!" Walking closer, Mizuki could finally make out the insignia on Byodoin's nanosuit. "Apologies, I couldn't recognise you under..." he gestured, "all that."

"I got it, I got it. I'll shave when we get back to base so you can see my face again." Byodoin replied, shrugging. "In the meantime, congratulations on completing your first mission. Sounds like you did a great job."

"Oh it was awful," Mizuki complained. "The wind was so strong! I'm sure you heard about how our equipment got blown off the mountain. Which is why I'm down here while the others are still up there." He hoped everything was going well and that they could manage the setup with only two people.

"Yeah. I was impressed that you went after that equipment yourself. Good work." Byodoin wasn't even trying to flatter Mizuki, he genuinely thought that he'd done a good job. "If I was planning a mission I wouldn't hesitate to put you on my team. For now you deserve some rest, though... head inside and lay down."

There was another storm brewing. They'd probably be here awhile.

"Nfufu," Mizuki preened a little, conveniently forgetting how he'd been scared witless while rappelling down the side of the mountain and almost peed himself."Thank you!"

He looked up at the sky, then back at the mountain. "I'm just going to pick up something from where I was bunking down," he told Byodoin. "I saw something interesting earlier."

Byodoin made his way down the ramp to join Mizuki with a shrug. "Sure, but I'm coming along. There's a storm coming and I'm not going to risk you getting stuck somewhere by yourself."

"Suit yourself," said Mizuki, already backtracking. "I'm small enough to shelter in the rock crevices, but the same can't be said for you." He made his way to a snug little alcove and shimmied sideways through a split in the rock. There was a small pick and other tools on the ground, where Mizuki had been trying to pry something out.
