It’s Spring! 

Well, back on Earth anyway. 

… In places that still have predictable seasons.

In honor of this historically and agriculturally significant seasonal Earth event, Cpt Ryuuzaki has seen fit to organize a celebration of all things Spring.

And maybe also celebrate the temperature control working again.

Picnic blankets have been laid out in the VR room, where everyone can enjoy light refreshments under (virtual) cherry blossoms. An easter egg hunt has also been set up around the base. Enjoy this completely arbitrary celebration since Yomi has the budget for it! \o/

Niou grinned and gosh, if only he had more hands to pat the chickens who were now crowding them again in search of treats from Yanagi. "You know, you can give them the whole bag. You should give them the whole bag before they run you over and drag you back to the coop." He paused. "... Hypothetically of course. They wouldn't, they're harmless."

Yanagi eyed the GM chickens, which would most assuredly consume the entire base if left to their own devices.

He settled for sprinkling the rest of the treats in a tight circle around Niou.

Niou just managed to grab a few of the treats from the ground before the chickens descended upon them, crowding around him and he fell back onto his butt. He flung his stolen treats at Yanagi, which was followed by a group of the chickens launching them at Yanagi with some unholy screeches and feathers flying.

Is the screeching more terrifying when it comes from two heads in sync, or the two heads out of sync?

"Alright. So we need another yellow star egg?" Sanada asked just to confirm he read it right while already starting to move around engineering. He wondered if they were all in the same room or spread out further. "Maybe the break area?" It would be a safe area to have people coming in to hunt and had plenty of various hiding spots that could work.

Yanagi resigned himself to possible death by chicken thighs.

At least Niou was worse off.

"Have a pleasant day, Masaharu," Yanagi said, figure-eighting his way across the area in a vain attempt to escape the onslaught.

"Peaceful, isn't it?" Yanagi was slightly untidy, somewhat (literally) henpecked, and only mostly feather-free, but otherwise the same old slightly creepy guy who watched over you always.

He sat down next to Gakuto, nursing a mug of tea.

Mizuki nodded. "That's right! I don't think they'll be hidden right next to each other, so the break area is a fair place to start."

They arrived there in seemingly no time at all, Mizuki keeping his eyes peeled all the while. Hmm... maybe hidden in a potted plant?

Gakuto nodded, turning his head to really look at Yanagi. "...What happened to you?" He didn't see Yanagi very often, but when he did, the man was very put together and not untidy...certainly not covered in feathers.

"Chickens," was Yanagi's succinct answer, sipping his tea.

Gakuto stared at Yanagi for a moment before snickering and offering his basket to Yanagi. "Say no more. Snack?"

Sanada headed over to the coffee station they had set up and poked around before moving to the messy shelf that housed various engineering manuals and stray parts and tools that other engineers could take or tinker with if they wanted. Shuffling a few things around he spotted the garish egg. "Mizuki," He said as he held up the egg with a victorious smile. This was easier than he thought.

"Alright, next one."

"Thank you." Yanagi remained dignified as he accepted a biscuit. "Did you see many cherry blossoms, growing up?"

Well, that was easy. Sanada was truly reliable!

"Wonderful!" exclaimed Mizuki, accepting the egg for safekeeping. "You're amazing, Sanada-san. We'll get all the eggs in no time."

Gakuto’s smile softened. "Yeah. I lived in Japan on Earth... they were definitely more abundant when I was small, but now that the planet is burning up, cherry blossom season doesn't last very long..."

"I'm from Earth's Japan, too," Yanagi said, looking up into the simulated canopy of pink and white blossoms. "I believe I know what you mean. I do miss hanami, and the street stalls that would pop up at the most crowded spots."

Gakuto nodded, the wave of nostalgia washing over him was enough to make him sigh. "Ryou, Jirou, and I would drive the stall vendors near our home crazy with how rowdy we were. Sometimes, I would camp among the trees when I ran away from home."

"It must be nice to have them here with you now," said Yanagi with a smile. He certainly was glad for Sanada. "Did you run away from home often? I understand you had a ...fraught... relationship with your father."

"Yeah. It's great. Anytime I miss home I can go bother them." Gakuto laughed. "And yeaaaah. I was running away from home more often than not."

"I am glad," Yanagi said quite sincerely. "It would be a very long five years, otherwise."

He nibbled on his snack and continued fishing for information collecting data. "Is that why you eventually wandered into space?"

Gakuto moved his head back and forth like he was struggling with the answer. "I guess? I did a lot of things as a fuck you to my dad."

"Oh?" Yanagi tilted his head curiously. "I sense a lot of interesting stories behind that statement."

Gakuto chuckled, raising an eyebrow. "You like gossip, huh?" He nibbled on a biscuit. "He was terrible to me, so I was terrible back. Ran away from home, dressed in a way that drove him crazy, sneaking boys into my room..."

Yanagi smiled disarmingly. "It's interesting to me, because it's a very different life-experience from mine," he said. "I was always, superficially at least, a very obedient child who followed all the rules. Yours was, is, a passionate way of living."

Gakuto laughed. "Superficially, huh? My life probably would have been easier if I had done that, but..." He shrugged. "I wouldn't trade it."
