Who: Kenya, Zaizen, and Marui
When: Nov 3rd
Where: Zaizen's room
What: FEELINGS INTERVENTION aka people are tired of your shit Marui.
It started like most things with Kenya and Zaizen. A break in cuddling where they started talking about life. And Kenya started talking about Marui.
“...So, am I dumb, or is the whole Akutsu thing still bothering Bunta…?”
Zaizen blinked and shrugged his shoulders. "It absolutely is, but you know how he is. He'd rather die than admit to having feelings. Probably not very healthy, honestly."
...Marui wasn’t exactly the image of mental health in the first place, though.
Kenya nodded. “I just want him to be happy. Do you think he would respond okay if we tried to talk to him?”
"He's absolutely going to whine like a whiny baby and refuse to admit Akutsu hurt his feelings." Zaizen pointed out. "But if we can get through that, it might help him some. I don't know. I'm not an expert on Bunta-san's delicate psyche."
Kenya frowned. “Maybe if I cuddle him the whole time, he’ll listen!” Kenya was an optimist if nothing else.
"It will be more like you holding onto him so that he doesn't get away, but sure, we can try it." Zaizen smiled at Kenya. He was willing to try to help Bunta out if it made Kenya happy.
Kenya smiled back. “When should we talk to him?”
Zaizen shrugged. "We could call him over right now for all I care. Might as well get this over with."
Kenya nodded and sent Marui a message, asking him to come over..
"Include a racy picture to catch his interest." Zaizen instructed, thinking of the best way to really get Marui over fast.
Good thing Kenya was naked! He grinned and grabbed Hikaru and took a selfie with him before typing out an invitation to come over.
And so they were left waiting. Zaizen stretched, before getting up and starting to get dressed. He wasn't going to have a fussy baby intervention with Marui while he was naked. That would be weird.
Kenya also got dressed. He felt a little bad, but if the talk went well, he was sure Hikaru would be willing to reward Marui later.
Marui would have come over even without the picture, but it certainly didn’t hurt. Always up for a little fun, Marui finished up editing the audio he was working on, then was at Zaizen’s door in no time. He gave a knock, throwing in a “It’s me,” so they knew it wasn’t someone else walking in on them.
Zaizen unlocked the door from his spot on the bed, sighing a little. Here they went, time to piss Bunta-san off. "Come on in, we're waiting for you."
Kenya was already nervous. He stood up and led Marui to the bed. "That was a speedy response!" He laughed.
“I’m only a couple rooms down, so…” Marui had only been there for a few seconds, and he was suspicious already. “How come you guys put your clothes back on? And why are you looking at me like that?” He loved all eyes being on him, but he thought this was a little bit off as he took a seat on the edge of Zaizen’s bed.
Zaizen shook his head. Well, here went nothing. "Kenya-san... no, we are worried about you. It's mostly Kenya-san though."
Kenya fidgeted and went to sit on Marui’s other side. "Um…well…it's just…I was thinking a lot and I noticed you're still really sore when Akutsu-san is mentioned…"
Marui’s expression went from confused curiosity to unimpressed irritation in a second flat. These two lured him here with sex for this? “So you’re bringing him up around me because…?” This better be good.
Ah yes, there was the unavoidable irritation. Guess they were really doing this. "This is an intervention. A you-have-feelings intervention. So you can heal or whatever."
It was pretty clear that while this was Kenya's idea, Zaizen wasn't going to let Marui not be interventioned.
Kenya nodded. "Because we really like you…and it at least makes me sad that you still seemed so bummed out about it…" Kenya said softly. "But you can't get over it if you won't admit it hurt in the first place."
Uugh. Marui felt like a kid getting a talk from an overly understanding parent. What was the word for that… condescending? Yeah, that was it. “Of course it hurt, that’s why I don’t want to talk about it. How can I get over it when people keep bringing it up?” Take the hint, idiots, leave him alone.
"So you admit having feelings for him?" Getting Marui to just admit it like that would make this annoying intervention go a lot faster. "And that he hurt your feelings when he chose someone else?"
"Hikaru, I think that's exactly what he's saying." Honestly, Marui was so good at acting, Kenya thought he hadn't processed it that far. He honestly felt very stupid for thinking this was a good idea. "I guess the big thing is…we just wanted you to know we care about you."
“Yes and yes. Happy?” Marui scowled his scowliest scowl. “Funny way of showing it, luring me over here with sex and making me talk about feelings instead. You’re lucky I like you two.” Who knew what kind of dramatic nonsense he’d be throwing if he didn’t.
Zaizen shrugged, relieved that had gone so... well? Had that gone well? Well, anyway, he wasn’t done.
"You should tell Akutsu how you feel. Make it a clean break." Zaizen suggested, ignoring Marui's whining. "I think that like most people Akutsu underestimated your feelings."
Kenya gaped at Zaizen. He wasn’t going to go that far. "I'm sorry we tricked you…" He said. "It wasn't done to be mean or anything…"
“No.” Plain and simple. Marui would rather die than open that can of worms with Akutsu again. “I let him underestimate my feelings on purpose. I didn’t want to seem weird and clingy, okay? And yeah, it backfired. I know that. Telling him now isn’t going to do anything but embarrass me and probably make Niou harass me more, like he even needs a reason.”
"Well, at least now you're talking about it. Keeping shit all bottled up is bad for you." Zaizen reached out and flicked Marui's forehead. "And stop over analyzing. If you like someone go ahead and be clingy. You deserve it, stupid."
Kenya nodded. "Anyone would be lucky to have you want them!" He insisted. "You're funny and smart and attractive…" He wrapped his arms around Marui. "You would still be cool even if you were a little clingy."
It was really a miracle that Marui hadn’t started whining up until this point, but Kenya’s unconditional love and support pulled it out of him. Zaizen’s version of love and support… well, it got him talking, at least. Marui leaned into Kenya’s hug, scowl turned into a pout. “I made an idiot out of myself so many times and he still liked Niou better. Niou. I lost to Niou.” A blow to his ego if there ever was one.
Zaizen nodded. "Yeah, that sucks. Niou is definitely... an interesting choice. But maybe that just means Akutsu wasn't as cool as you thought he was."
Kenya cuddled Marui, feeling absolutely terrible for him. "There’s no accounting for taste…but for what it's worth, I think it's his loss, not yours."
“He is that cool, you don’t understand. And now he hates me because Niou made me do something stupid. It’s all Niou’s fault.” Culpability, who? Marui may have had awareness of his failings somewhere deep down, but they weren’t going to come out voluntarily. No, it was much easier to blame everything on Niou.
Zaizen rolled his eyes, hard. "Thing one, I doubt Akutsu hates you. He just wants you to stop snapping at his boyfriend. And thing number two, Niou didn't make you do anything. It's your own crummy personality flaws that made you go and publicly embarrass Niou and piss Akutsu off like that."
Zaizen, perfectly willing to call you on your shit.
And then Kenya swooped in to ease the burn. "But it was fair to be upset that Niou wasn't reading the room and kept bothering you for sex advice…" He said. "Even I'm not that dumb."
"Yeah, next time just ask us to beat Niou up or something." Zaizen offered. "It would be easy. He's scrawny."
“First of all, Niou has guns and he’s willing to use them. I could beat him up myself, but he shot me.” Marui needed it clear that he wouldn’t lose in a hand to hand fight against a string bean who couldn’t even make it up the stairs. “Second of all, what the hell?! Are you my friend or not?!” Crummy personality flaws? Just who did Zaizen think he was talking to? He was lucky that dear sweet Kenya was holding him right now.
"I'm the friend who inspires you to better yourself." Zaizen replied with a shrug. "You need help taking responsibility for your actions sometimes or you'll never heal. Or something like that."
“Maybe I don’t want to heal or better myself.” Marui clung to Kenya while he glared at Zaizen, it made him feel like he had someone on his side, even though Kenya hadn’t said anything.
"Kenya-san wants you to heal. He's worried about you... no, we're worried about you." Zaizen admitted the last part with some reluctance. "We want you to be able to stop fixating on one rejection to the point it's starting extra drama in your life."
Kenya nodded. "Yeah…you've already got so much going on…and staying stuck on Akutsu makes you a target, and that isn't helping with the other stuff…" He sighed softly. "I know you like people who challenge you, and I know I'm like…the opposite of that…but I just want you to be happy."
Marui sighed. It was hard to be mad when they were genuinely trying to help. “You don’t understand, I’m not fixating on it. I was fine! But do you have any idea the crap Niou was saying to me? I don’t care that he was asking me sex questions, it was stuff like, ‘we fucked twice and Jin came in my ass because he missed me so much, and ‘oh, Jin kissed me so much my lips hurt ha ha’, and like, Akutsu doesn’t kiss people, okay? Niou was basically coming up to me and telling me how much Akutsu loves him, and I didn’t want to hear it!! I didn’t want to hear it and I told him that but he kept telling me anyway and he kept! Rubbing! It in!!!”
Zaizen listened, frowning. And then he sighed and moved to join the Marui comfort hug. "Okay, okay. I'm sorry I blamed it all on you. I get that Niou was hurting you with his... Niou-ness." Niou was pretty good at riling people up for fun, honestly. "You didn't deserve that."
Kenya hadn't known Niou had done all that. Just the sex advice was bad enough, but then to rub it in like that? Intentional or not it was terrible. Kenya just held on tight. "You didn't deserve that at all. Especially since you seemed to back off on Akutsu the moment they asked you to."
“No shit,” Marui mumbled into the embrace of his two friends. “And then everyone acted like I was the crazy one when it was all Niou. Niou never gets in trouble.” He was seemingly untouchable, and Marui hated it. “I just wanted Akutsu to kiss me.”
Zaizen petted Marui's head, frowning a little. There was no real way to help with that. "I mean, you want what you want. In the meantime if you need to vent to someone you have me and Kenya, okay? Don't bottle this stuff up, it'll give you wrinkles." He kissed Marui's forehead.
Kenya wished there was something he could do. Instead, he just kissed Marui’s cheek. "You're too pretty for wrinkles, Bun-chan."
At this point Marui was spent, all fight gone out of his body. He looked sad and deflated, and it was only Zaizen and Kenya’s support keeping him together right now. “I hate this stupid planet,” he grumbled, quiet and exhausted.
Zaizen nodded his head in understanding. "...You can stay here for the night. Get some sleep and you'll feel better when you wake up."
"I'm staying, too!" Kenya said. "I wanna stay with Bunta right now!"
That sounded good to Marui, so he crawled under the covers, making himself comfortable and taking off his shirt and pants. He was going to be in the middle after all, so he didn’t want to overheat. But before he could shut his eyes and try to turn off for the night, he had one last thing to say. “By the way, you two owe me sex.” He hadn’t forgotten about that misleading picture from earlier.
Zaizen laughed. "Well, we were always planning on rewarding you for a job well done." They would give Marui a rain check since the mood wasn't really great right now, though.
Kenya nodded, snuggling up close. "Maybe that's how we'll wake you up tomorrow." He suggested. "But for now, let's get some rest."
Marui didn’t respond, but his smile spoke for him. For now, rest sounded good.
