[SEMIOPEN LOG] EXPEDITION 3, ALL TEAMS

Semi-open log for the second expedition, Team 1 (Yanagi-Inui-Akutagawa-Ibu) and Team 2 (Ryuuzaki-Tezuka-Akutsu-Shishido)

How this works: only characters involved in this event can tag in this log.

Pre-Expedition Events (Open until everyone gets tired of it): Training and Packing. These events will involve only training/supply personnel (e.g. Medical for First Aid, Engineering for equipment, Logistics for requisitions, Tachibana for rations etc) and the personnel going on the mission. This will also include everyone hopping on the shuttle to get to the outpost (total 8 expedition folks + one NPC pilot)

Expedition: (Open until everyone gets tired of it): Set up categories/threads as needed, for example :Camping, Digging, More Digging. Other characters can also tag eg if someone makes a comm call, but make sure you ask/inform that person first, and this should not take up significant portions of the log. As always, ask in the Discord if you have any questions.

There maaaay be an event halfway through the expedition :D
Have fun!

And so it began.

Once they were far out enough from the outpost that the tunnels were no longer lit, Yanagi clicked on his torch and looked at Inui.

"Well, what now, Sadaharu?" Ideally, he or Inui would take point. Akutagawa might be best served safely in the centre, operating the drone to scout ahead, while Ibu and the other one of them brought up the rear. For better or worse, Inui was the rank officer on this mission, so they'd have to see what he thought, though Yanagi did not think it would be too different from his ideas.

Inui turned on his torch as well, though the filters built into their helmets were doing quite a good job of seeing in the dark. He glanced between the other three members of their team and settled on Yanagi. "The formation that you are likely thinking of will work well." With how logically and carefully Yanagi often played his games, it was not difficult to predict what he would be thinking right now.

"Akutagawa in the centre with the drone scouting ahead. Ibu and Renji in the back. I will lead and operate the scanner to detect possible crawler nests, Renji ensure that you are collecting the data for the mapping," he elaborated, for the other two and then glanced at Yanagi to confirm. "Any questions, concerns, comments?"

"I am agreeable," said Yanagi, acknowledging the assignment with a nod. He calibrated his communicator and other devices for the task, then shifted to the back of the group. "Shinji-san and I will have your backs, Sadaharu, Mr. Akutagawa."

Jirou nodded, fiddling with his drone a bit before making it take off and go a ways ahead of him. It was certainly a good way to see what was coming, if nothing else. "Any particular way you want me to head?"

Inui observed the drone for a few moments - stable enough in its operation and he would predict that Akutagawa would become even more competent as the expedition continued. "We shall continue along this path, and attempt to swing north as soon as possible. Early data from the tunnels at the mining outpost suggest there may be some correlation between the magnetic field lines of the planet and the crawler movements." He glanced at Renji for a moment before he nodded and started down the tunnel. "It should begin to get muddy within approximately 1.5 km."

Yanagi nodded back at Inui, gave Akutagawa a reassuring glance, and then got to work mapping their route with the data fed back by the drone and other scanners.

They walked in awkward silence for a bit before there was a sudden dip, and the reduced grip on his boots suggested it was, in fact, getting muddy.

"Watch your footing," Yanagi reminded.

So far, nothing on the scanners. The tunnel was definitely getting smaller though and Inui pressed his hands out to roughly measure the difference in cave width from when they started. A 70% decrease so far.

Inui's foot was the first to slip, down a sudden drop in the ground and he caught himself before he went falling. "There is a sudden drop of... appromixately 94 cm," he said, lowering one leg down, before hopping down. He held a hand out to the others to help them down. "Mind your head, Renji."

"Mind yours," Yanagi replied calmly, bending his knees to lower his centre of gravity. He descended without much issue, checking to see if Akutagawa had solid footing.

"Has the drone picked up anything?" he asked.
