It’s Spring! 

Well, back on Earth anyway. 

… In places that still have predictable seasons.

In honor of this historically and agriculturally significant seasonal Earth event, Cpt Ryuuzaki has seen fit to organize a celebration of all things Spring.

And maybe also celebrate the temperature control working again.

Picnic blankets have been laid out in the VR room, where everyone can enjoy light refreshments under (virtual) cherry blossoms. An easter egg hunt has also been set up around the base. Enjoy this completely arbitrary celebration since Yomi has the budget for it! \o/

People can pack a picnic basket from a selection of finger foods to take into the VR room, or just hang out . Individuals whose culinary ambitions have been approved can also showcase their skills here.

[EASTER EGG HUNT: All around base!]

Collect all 7 different coloured eggs and win a prize! Multiples of each color have been hidden all around the base.
Blue polkadot eggs are hidden near the pool.
Green tiger stripe eggs are hidden around the greenhouse.
Yellow star eggs are in weird spots in Engineering.
Red checkered eggs are scattered all over Agri.
Purple cow print eggs are in the small gardens dotted around the base.
Pink flower print eggs are in the mess hall.
Rainbow striped eggs can be traded at the bar. 3 eggs of different colors = 1 rainbow egg. (Note that eggs exchanged for rainbow eggs cannot be counted towards the total)

Sanada was pulling down some materials he needed when something dropped down from the shelf to land on his boot. He paused and frowned as he looked down. An egg? He pushed the things he was getting further back onto the shelf and bent down to retrieve the egg. "Why does it have stars?" He asked as he held it up. Weird. Maybe he somehow missed a memo about them. He still hadn't finished catching up on all of the paperwork and base-wide memos since returning from the mini-crab disaster.

"Oh, Sanada-san, you found one! How lucky!" Mizuki wandered over from where he had been examining some boxes. "Well, where there's one there must be more, I suppose..."

Sanada looked over at Mizuki who seemed way too excited about him discovering a weird egg thing. "Is it yours?" He asked. He held it out so Mizuki could see it better. He didn't know why or how it had ended up where it had but Mizuki did presumably do safety checks in random places.

"You don't want it?" Mizuki asked, confused, then snapped his fingers in realisation. "Oh! Do you not know about the Easter Egg hunt? There's an event today!" He pulled up the event announcement on his communicator and showed it to Sanada.

"There's a what?" Now Sanada was even more confused. How did he miss an announcement about an event? He read over it and frowned. Why did someone hide eggs all around engineering? Didn't they know that could be dangerous? If nothing else, it would probably be annoying. But also, if he already had one, should he try to find the others? "I see... How many have you found so far?"

Curiouser and curiouser!

Mizuki tugged at a curl, thinking. "So you really didn't know. Strange, I thought they'd have at least informed someone in Engineering... and you're one of the co-heads, right?" That was a little worrying.

In response to Sanada's query, Mizuki displayed his collection of four differently brightly coloured eggs. "There are seven colours, apparently."

"Niou probably approved it and forgot to tell me," Sanada said with a shrug. It would not be the first time that Niou forgot to tell him something. The man was a genius in his own way but also a bit of a disaster on the organizational front.

Sanada looked at the four eggs in Mizuki's hand and then pulled out his own datapad to bring up the poster so he wouldn't have to keep using Mizuki's and frowned. "The rainbow one needs three extra eggs to get... that's annoying. What do you think the prize is?" Perhaps it'd be better to team up. They could expedite the hunt, share the prize, and then move on to enjoy the other activities apparently lined up.

Enjoy snacks while viewing (virtual) cherry blossoms! If the input suddenly changes to horror house that’s just a weird software glitch.

Gakuto had swiped a picnic basket and was laying out his blanket to sit under the virtual cherry blossoms. It was such a weird thing, but he had really missed the view. He was completely at peace with just snacking and hanging out.

"Peaceful, isn't it?" Yanagi was slightly untidy, somewhat (literally) henpecked, and only mostly feather-free, but otherwise the same old slightly creepy guy who watched over you always.

He sat down next to Gakuto, nursing a mug of tea.

Gakuto nodded, turning his head to really look at Yanagi. "...What happened to you?" He didn't see Yanagi very often, but when he did, the man was very put together and not untidy...certainly not covered in feathers.

"Chickens," was Yanagi's succinct answer, sipping his tea.

Gakuto stared at Yanagi for a moment before snickering and offering his basket to Yanagi. "Say no more. Snack?"

"Thank you." Yanagi remained dignified as he accepted a biscuit. "Did you see many cherry blossoms, growing up?"

Gakuto’s smile softened. "Yeah. I lived in Japan on Earth... they were definitely more abundant when I was small, but now that the planet is burning up, cherry blossom season doesn't last very long..."

Yanagi stared into the feathered abyss, and it stared back.

He was really only passing by to check on some logs, only to be surrounded by a mass of chickens expecting treats.

Yanagi did not generally like animals, and animals could usually tell. He'd not expected such a warm welcome from poultry.

From somewhere, Niou slid into existence next to Yanagi, his legs being integrated into the hoard of friendly chickens. They warbled when spotted him, the noise getting louder as they focused not just on him, but on the bag of treats that appeared in his hand.

"Here to volunteer with agriculture?" he asked cheerfully, tossing a handful of treats at the chickens. Niou shoved the bag at Yanagi to take, watching a few rainbow feathers go flying in front of them.

Niou Masaharu, chicken wrangler. Yanagi was glad the chickens' attention was now elsewhere.

"I was passing by on a work matter," he replied, mechanically taking the bag and scattering the treats like ashes. "I suppose they were hungry."

The chickens fussed around the treats like dying men in the dessert, feathers occasionally flying as they fought. "I see. What sort of work matter brings you to agriculture, then?"

He glanced over at the automatic feeder in the corner; there was no alert that it was in need of refilling. And their water dispenser looked much the same. "No, I think they're just greedy. They get fed on a schedule."

"I was just following up on some discrepancies in the logs," Yanagi replied, flicking more treats further away from him.

"There's a separate stomach for treats. It's the same for many people, I'm told."

"Ah I see. Ever the diligent paperwork man." Which reminded him, he had to file some more reports from engineering for Renji... Perhaps he'd do a chicken-themed puzzle this week.

Niou squatted down to pat the chickens who had abandoned the tussle for treats to warble around their feet again. "Perhaps. A separate dessert stomach." He smiled a bit up at Yanagi. "Or in your case, a separate tea and senbei stomach."
