LOG: Kenya and Zaizen
Who: Kenya and Zaizen
When: During the time Zaizen was at the outpost with his kidnapped Oshitari.
Where: the mining outpost
What: a pep talk and working things out.
Having Kenya at the outpost with him was proving, in Zaizen's view, to be a great success. He was an effective and happy helper, and his positivity made work... well, less work.
For example right now they were preparing to have a bath installed, and Kenya was being so excited he could barely hold still. It made Zaizen's stomach do flip flops. "...Maybe I should just keep you as my assistant."
Kenya stopped what he was doing and laughed. “Oh my god, my mother would kill me.” He snorted. “She’s already so mad I was going to stop at being a nurse. Could you imagine if I quit medicine altogether??”
Zaizen could kind of relate. After all, he was only working this job to make more money so his mom wouldn't worry. "Yeah, she'd probably shit herself. But... about that... are you okay with becoming a doctor?"
Kenya made an excellent nurse, but Zaizen didn’t really think being a doctor was one of even his top ten job choices.
Kenya sobered up a little. He really wasn’t having fun studying to be a doctor. He liked being a nurse, but even that wasn’t his first choice as a career. “I mean…it’s what mom wants me to do. She says I’m wasting my potential just being a nurse.”
Zaizen shrugged. "It's your potential to waste in the end. She doesn't get to be the boss of you forever."
For example he was quitting this job in five years to focus on his passion. It would be nice if Kenya-san could work a job he enjoyed too.
Kenya sighed and went to sit down. “But she and dad did pay for my schooling…” He hunched his shoulders. “What if they get really mad if I quit?”
Zaizen shrugged. "Tell them that you'll pay them back if you need to, but that you're not going to be happy as a doctor. Your parents... never seemed unreasonable. Just concerned for you."
Zaizen was pretty okay with Kenya's parents.
Kenya nodded. He knew his parents loved him, and wanted him to be able to keep himself happy and healthy. “I’m not sure I totally agree with the unreasonable thing…” Kenya said softly. He never showed it too often, but he was very bitter about having to quit running.
Zaizen frowned, and moved close enough to be touching Kenya if he needed the support.
"I mean, I get why they did what they did. It was shitty, but being a professional is really competitive and the chances of injury are high..." Zaizen sighed. "It's like my mom not wanting me to solely be a musician, though at least I can go back to my passion... maybe you can too. Run some amateur races and marathons or something."
Kenya nodded. “Maybe, but I never have any time…” School and work swamped his time. “And by the time I go back, I’ll be thirty…”
Zaizen shrugged. "If you're still in shape you can run marathons. Even old farts do that." Zaizen shrugged. "And you'll have time if you don't become a doctor. Right?"
Kenya could work as a nurse, run marathons, and be at Zaizen’s beck and call. A great plan in Zaizen's opinion.
Kenya nodded. "I… I guess you're right!" He smiled. "I just mom knew why I chose to be a nurse in the first place!"
"Because you admire your mom, right?" Zaizen wasn't stupid. He'd noticed that out of Kenya's parents his mother was by far his favorite. And not because he was a momma's boy or anything. "So just tell her that. It would probably be easier to do from out here than in person anyway."
Zaizen patted Kenya's back. "You deserve to be happy, Kenya-san."
Kenya blushed. He hadn't realized he had been so obvious! He was also really touched that Hikaru wanted him to be happy. "I think I'll do that. Thank you, Hikaru."
Zaizen smiled at Kenya, and then leaned in to briefly hug him. "Good. Tell me if you need any help, okay? I'll do what I can."
Kenya hugged back. "You're already helping a lot, Hikaru!"
Zaizen looked bashful, but soaked up the praise eagerly. "I just like seeing you happy. I'll do whatever I have to in order to see you happy."
Yeah, his ears were red again. Kenya had a way of doing that to him.
"I'd rather have a happy nurse Kenya-san than a sullen doctor Kenya-san. Besides, a nurse has more time to spend with me. That's important if you really want to date me."
Kenya loved when Hikaru's ears did that! It was so cute! And the weight of Hikaru's words wasn't lost on Kenya. "I do want to date you…" He blushed.
Zaizen fidgeting. "Yeah. I want to date you too. I'm just used to people getting sick of how clingy I am I guess. I keep expecting you to change your mind, and I want to stay friends if that happens."
Kenya shifted and took both of Zaizen's hands into his own. "Hikaru, I'm not gonna get sick of you! I love taking care of you and making you happy. You know….high school was actually really hard for me because I had to give up running….but Audio Visual club was so much fun because of you!"
Zaizen shrugged, but let Kenya keep ahold of him even if this was super embarrassing. "I had fun being with you too, Kenya-san. Every day was great."
And Kenya hadn't gotten tired of him then, so he probably wouldn't get sick of him now, right?
"So... does this mean we're dating? Tentatively?" Zaizen asked, just to be sure.
Kenya brightened up, smiling so bright, he might blind someone. "I would love that!" He said. "Yes!" His happiness dimmed just a little when he remembered one little bit. "Oh…what should I do about Bunta?"
"What about him? Are you planning to leave me for him or something?" Zaizen deadpanned with a shrug. "If not I don't really care. I mean, I like sleeping with him too. And I mean he's the one that convinced me to actually talk to you. He deserves to get laid a few times for that if nothing else."
Was that too open minded? Was Kenya-san going to be freaked out by that? Zaizen furrowed his brow.
Kenya tilted his head and let the suggestion sink. “Oh. Okay!” He didn’t mind Hikaru having sex with Bunta so much now, and he did enjoy it. “Wait…he convinced you to talk to me? Really?”
Zaizen was relieved that Kenya-san seemed okay with his opinion on the matter. "Yeah. He got me to stop sitting around feeling sorry for myself and actually talk to you. He's pretty okay." He shrugged. "So I don’t mind if Bunta-san keeps hanging around. Besides, having a mutual sex friend doesn't sound so bad. I've always wanted to try a threesome."
Kenya turned bright red at that, letting go of Hikaru to hide his face. “Okay…” He mumbled, not willing to look at Zaizen at that moment. “I’m glad…”
Zaizen squinted at Kenya, trying to gauge if he was really glad or not. "If you don't agree you have veto power, Kenya-san. You're more important to me than a threesome."
“No…no…” Kenya peeked over his hands. “I also want to try a threesome…”
Zaizen tipped his head to the side. "Oh. Okay, that works."
As long as Kenya was just embarrassed and not actually upset with him that was fine.
"...I want to have you to myself first, though. I mean, I've spent a lot of time thinking about it." Zaizen confessed.
Kenya’s heart skipped a beat. “...Really? You think about it?” Kenya, of course, had thought about it a lot, too.
Zaizen's ears were on fire. "I told you I've liked you a long time! Of course I've thought about stuff like that..." he didn't meet Kenya's gaze. He was too embarrassed. "I'm apparently clingy though, so i hope you're prepared."
Kenya smiled shyly. “I like how clingy you are. It makes me feel important.” He looked over at Zaizen and without really thinking about it, poked at Zaizen’s ear. Oh. So warm.
Zaizen looked pleased with Kenya's response, finally meeting his eye and scooting in for a goddamn hug. "...You are important, Kenya-san. The most important."
Kenya smiled and wrapped his arms around Zaizen, holding him close. “And you’re the most important to me, Hikaru. You have been for a long time.”
Zaizen let out a breath he hadn’t known he'd been holding and nuzzled into Kenya. "...I'm glad I talked with you properly. Remind me to send Bunta-san a gift basket or something."
He felt much better now, after all. More secure.
“I’ll remind you when we get back.” Kenya agreed. He would have to thank Bunta as well. “I wish we were back at the base. Cuddling here is kind of hard…”
Zaizen pouted. "And doing other things is pretty much impossible. There's always someone lingering around."
Which sucked, because the mood was really good right now. Well, he guessed they'd just focus on getting the bath up for now. After Kenya gave him the kiss he was clearly owed. He looked up at Kenya expectantly, staring at his lips.
Kenya looked at Zaizen for a moment before looking around. When he saw that no one was watching, he placed a kiss on Zaizen’s lips. “...That’s okay, though, right?”
Zaizen looked pleased. "Yeah. That's okay. Anyway, let's get back to work."
They could snuggle and stuff later. And soon they'd be back on base, too.
Kenya grinned and nodded. “Alright, Boss! Let’s get this bath up!” He was so giddy right now, so he was back up running around in no time.
